Specialize cross disk hybrid shock/fork problem

I have a 2015 crosstrail disk and the lock out busted. The dealer or LBD told me that that fork was entry level and many break He also said it is no worth fixing it possibly will break again. I asked about a new fork like a Judy and he said 800 bucks. I only paid 700 for the bike. WTF!Anyone here have this expirence and or any ideas on a fix.

Isn't the fork covered under warranty?

It's only a $20 part, not sure how easy or hard it is to replace, but I'm betting it's not that difficult. This is just the caps. The LBS should be able to get the correct parts from Suntour. Or you can go to Suntours site and order as well.

Actually doesn't appear to be that difficult to fix:

Bigger question is why the LBS didn't want to fix it? Are they that busy to turn away business?

There are many youtube videos of different ways of fixing the shock depending on what exactly is broke on yours.

FWIW, the Rockshox Paragon fork is fantastic, and a bargain at $197.

Bike is 19 months old out of warranty . I tried to buy the part from suntour and recieved the wrong cap. Easy to replace but the mechanic at the shop said my lockout is busted and not worth fixing. Yes they are busy at all 6 of their locations 3 weeks out for repair appointments with 6 guys doing repairs 7 days a week. It is kind of a elitist hang out. So if you 66 with a bellie like me they look down on you. I won't be buying from them again.I have a second bike a road bike from another shop and they are super about keeping it running.

Sounds like you should be taking both bikes to that shop.

Take your Crosstrail to that other shop that you like. Get a second opinion.

FWIW, I can kind of see the point about that fork not being worth the cost of repairing. OTOH, the paint job on the fork matches that on the bike frame, right? The color-matched paint changes the value proposition enough that I can see spending to fix it. Because fixing it is the only way to continue to have a color-matched bike.

See what your other shop can do to help.

Let the shop know that customers choose bricks and mortar bike shops for their on going support and assistance. You would have received the same service advice from --Mart etc.
Yes, the fork is low grade, but the original inflated price on the bike in the LBS, is to cover ongoing service and minor maintenance. Why not suggest that you pay for the part, and they cover the labour. I think that's fair.
As for the colour matching fork, Jonathan is right in a way. Some people like colour matching, but others don't. I have two MTB's. The nonamebrand is colour matched, but the TREK isn't (from the factory). I personally prefer for them to not match. BUT that's just personal.
Also, one of my lock outs are buggered, but it makes no difference to me as I don't use it anyway.

You may well be right. I will just use it in shock mode and not worry about the stiff mode. Specialized seemed to have great bikes over 2000 but below that it can be sketchy

I don't think we need the sweeping generalizations about an entire brand just because a single plastic lever on your bike broke.

you may be right Grey.Perhaps I should say that their biggest retailer in Northern California is not interested in servicing my bike or a lazy mechanic. Lucky for me I know the directer of marketing for this bike chain and I will be seeing him this morning and pass along my problem .He may be able to pull some strings.Otherwise the web is a great place to get help. 20 dollar piece of plastic and the guy says he may not be able to get one and it is not worth it.Back to my original comment WTF. I can't aFFORD A 10,000 DOLLAR BIKE but this store sells them every day.Maybe why I am not important enough for my maintenance business

Thanks for posting this. If my Suntour breaks I'm getting this shock.

I would contact the manufacturer and tell them what is going on. The bike should have better quality parts. The fork is "entry level" should not cut it. You can go to Wallymart and get an "entry level" bike and its fork will last. Specialized should be better quality.
