Help me pick a good trekking bike for 400-600eur?
Hey guys,
complete newbie here. I'm looking for a good trekking bike for around 400-600eur and for some general guidance for what to look for in a trekking bike.
I don't really have any specific wishes other than that the bike shouldn't stand out (so no red frames please). I'm assumg 28in wheel diameter would be best, right?
Also could you suggest some good brands to me? I already looked at Scott, Cube, Trek, Specialized and some others but I would like to cover as many quality brands as possible before making my decision.
So far I like the Scott Sub Cross 50 and the Cube Curve, based purely on looks and brand because I don't know anything about bike components and which one is better. To be completely honest, I don't really care that much about it if one component is slightly better than the other. I just want the bike to be reliable
Any help will be greately appreciated!
Thanks

OK I did some more research and got a couple of bikes I like, let me know what you think about them and how they compare between each other
1. Specialized Crosstrail Disc: https://www.specialized.com/us/en/bi...il-disc/126335
2. Specialized Sirrius: https://www.specialized.com/us/en/bi.../sirrus/115192
3. Scott Sub Cross 50: SCOTT Sports - SCOTT Sub Cross 50 Men Bike
4. Cube Curve Pro: CUBE Curve Pro red black 2016
5. Cube Curve: CUBE Curve black grey white 2016
6. Trek 7.0 FX: 7.0 FX | Trek Bikes
7. Trek 7.1 FX: 7.1 FX | Trek Bikes
8. Trek FX 1: FX 1 | Trek Bikes
9. Trek 7.2 FX: 7.2 FX | Trek Bikes
10. Trek FX 2: FX 2 | Trek Bikes
11. Trek 7.3 FX: 7.3 FX | Trek Bikes
12. Trek 8.2 DS: 8.2 DS | Trek Bikes
13. Trek 8.3 DS: 8.3 DS | Trek Bikes
Would you say that getting, say, a 7.2 FX instead of a 7.0 FX is worth the extra money, considering I'm not that into bikes? And which one would you personally pick and why? Sorry for the 13 links...
Thanks again

There's a lot of variability in the bikes you posted.
Sirrus and Trek 7.#'s are rigid fork; Crossroads and Trek 8.#'s are suspension forks. I don't know about the Scott's and Cube's because I would personally never consider either of those brands.
IMO, Giant offers better value than either Specialized or Trek, and any of the other brands. Their quality is equal, and at the same price, Giant will have better components. At the same component level, Giant will be lower in cost. Typically.
You have to decide if you want a rigid fork or suspension.
If you want rigid, look at the Giant Toughroad.
If suspension, Giant Roam. Roam 0 is their highest spec. and 3 is the lowest. Roam 2 should be in your price range and is very well equipped for the price.
My personal choice from all of the manufacturers, styles and models is the Giant Roam 0. I ordered a new 2017 model a couple of weeks ago and am still waiting on delivery. It's a fantastic bike for the $.
In the end, just be sure to buy something that makes you happy. Good luck.

Also your Weight, height, age, and general health would help along with a list of bikes you have already inspected at shops (if any) and what your opinion was of them.
Look forward to your reply.

Hi. It would help a lot if you told us a bit more about what you want to do on the bike, where you expect to ride, the terrain types, the distances, if you're going to be riding just for fun, or commuting to work, or have serious fitness goals. Where are you located? Is it a hot climate, does it snow or rain a lot? If it very hilly or mostly flat where you will ride.
Also your Weight, height, age, and general health would help along with a list of bikes you have already inspected at shops (if any) and what your opinion was of them.

Why would you not consider Scott and Cube? Both companies make fine bikes.
You've essentially just rationalized your own personal choice and are proclaiming a bike you don't even own yet.
I hope your bike turns out to be as good as you assert.

I realize the OP has since bought a bike and so the thread is essentially dead but I had to respond to this post.

I never presented my opinions as fact, but if you must know the whole story, I based them on the following:
1) I currently own a 14 year old Giant that has performed flawlessly, and therefore I am somewhat biased towards the brand as they have earned my trust with an excellent product.
2) I briefly looked at (and test rode) Scott at my LBS in comparison to Giant, Trek and Specialized, and as I noted, and to me it appeared inferior to all, so that's why I wouldn't consider one. So I didn't bother to look up the specs on the one the OP posted to compare, which is what I noted.
3) Cube isn't sold here locally as far as I know, so if I can't see and ride it, I won't consider it. Again, based on that I noted that I didn't look up its specs for comparison.
... And also, the OP asked which one would you personally pick, so I responded as requested.
I stand by my original post... In My Opinion, Giant is the best value bike manufacturer. Just my opinion though. You and others are welcome to your own, which may or may not differ.
Cheers TRJB
