I've been using the free Wahoo fitness cell app for over a year riding hybrid and/or road bike. I ride with others using dedicated computers and I've not seen any descrepencies comparing uploads on Strava.

I started out using the app standalone (no sensors) displaying speed via GPS, time, distance , and audio announcements of averages, etc. Now, I've progressed to pairing Wahoo app with cadence, Speed (wheel), and Heart Rate monitor sensors. The cell display and battery life is non-issue as most of my rides are under 2 hours. Do I want to get a dedicated computer? Yes, but, the cell app is doing its' job so well it's not made it a top priority. I'll probably get the Wahoo Bolt eventually.. all my sensors are Wahoo and everything works well.. so, I'll stick with their products.

I've used Strava to map two rides so far, and it seems to work pretty well. I like how I can put my fleet of bikes in there, and I can keep records of miles rode on each bike, sort of like an odometer in the cloud.

I use a Cateye wireless Strada Slim strapped to my stem for time, speed and distance. It weights nothing, looks great and has a fuss-free interface. I don't need navigation. I've also used Strava (free) on my mobile in my saddle bag for mapping a few of my regular rides, the elevation feature of the GPS is quite good.

That combo is good enough for me.

And it will give you the yearly and weekly statistics on hours and miles that you ride.

Not sure what kind of rider you are, but check out the segment explorer and you can compare your efforts against others in your area.

As an FYI...Strava on the computer has a little more functionality than the mobile version.

The old guy with bad knees sz...

Just my opinion, but I would get something with cadence! IMHO the best way to blow out your knee is theyry to push too high a gear at slow RPM. With the zillion speeds we have on bikes, I ride at a cadence of 80 and just keep shifting to keep at 80 rpm. I was very surprised when after my first knee operation I switched to a computer with cadence how slow I sometimes spin. Now that I have had a second operation on my left knee, I am very careful to watch my cadence. Dr sz I don't have anything left for a third operation

Very smart choice IMO. Unless you're a real data nut that one does all you need, and being wired you wont be recharging it every week (no fun when you forget)

I use Sigma BC 8.12 computers on all my bikes, they are the same unit as yours basically but a bit smaller. Come in 2 colors
