Seat Adjustment

Trek 7200 Multi 17.5" I need to adjust the seat to a lower position. I released the "lever" and lowered the seat as far as it seemed it would go but it is still a bit too hall for me. Suggestions - and thanks in advance.

[ as seen in bike shops]

Physically? probably bottoms out against the seat tube water bottle mounts, so may have to saw off the bottom of the seat post.

But ... proper height is for pedaling not stopping* .. rule of thumb, heel of bare foot over center of pedal , your leg will be straight,

So normal pedaling the 'ball' of your foot is over the pedal center, then your knee will be slightly bent at the bottom of the pedal stroke.

you should be able to touch tippy toe from the saddle , to have a foot down flat, slip off ahead of the saddle ..

use the other pedal to get back up, on the saddle , when you start again.

*There is a whole different frame design , geometry, Type,'crank forward'/semi recumbent,

to offer you a motor bike foot out, solid low to the ground seat position.. for stopping/starting..

....

Where are you riding? What sort of riding? Seat height is sort of unimportant if you are just going 3 miles to the shop and back but for longer harder rides you want it optimized or you could end up with knee problems.

Buy a smaller bike. This is kind of no brainer I would think?

Welcome, @bobs39. Is this a new-to-you bike, or have you been riding it for a while and need to change the seat height for a specific reason? When you say that the seat is down as far as it will go, is there any part of the seat post still sticking out of the seat tube, or is the bottom of the saddle pretty much sitting on the top of the seat tube?

Well if it's going down as far as it would go, that would imply the saddle is sitting on top of the seat tube. Unless for some crazy reason the seat post was longer than the seat tube, which I doubt is the case.

Other possible reasons include bottoming out against bottle cage screws in the seat tube or possibly damage to the frame whereby the seat tube might have a slight dent or bend in it. Or perhaps even the seat post itself is damaged somehow.

He did say that the seat was lowered "as far as it seemed it would go", which indicates to me that perhaps the seat is stopping before it's fully lowered against the frame.

We know little from the original post, unfortunately.
