And now for something completely different - a "hybridized" hybrid. It rolled out of the bike shop in 2006 as a stock Trek FX 7.3 and I'd put tons of miles on it over 4+ years. It became pretty run down, but the frame/fit was still very comfortable, so i decided to rebuild it. Got on the internet in eraly 2011 and found everything I needed at post-christmas sale prices and this is what resulted. Not the lightest ride, but super comfy, and it does a good job on short tours, too.

My New specialized Crosstrail. Just bought it the other day at my local bike shop for path and gravel riding.

Wow, that Crosstrail is one of the best looking freakily-shaped bikes I've seen. Stunning.

Shame about that crazy downward sloping saddle angle, however. Uggh. That's a tad extreme.

Just got a new saddle. I'll see how I like it. If I don't like it, it's going back to the LBS. It's a WTB Rocket V. I also got a new saddle bag, as my old one tore. If I were to return it to Nashbar, I would only get about $5 back, because of the $6.95 processing fee that they charge for returns.

Overall bike (from the drive side):

Cockpit. I had to photoshop in my iPhone where the empty iPhone mount was, as I used it to capture the picture.:

I just wonder why (in general) so many bikes come with quick release seat clamps? If one isn't regularly adjusting the seat post height or removing the for packing for transport on a bus / plane / train, I would imagine it's an easy way for thieves or wankers to steal your post and saddle. Personally I'd make sure it's fixed.

I usually remove the saddle+seatpost assembly and lock it up with my braided steel lock through the rails, but when I lock it up, I usually lock it up in pretty low-crime-rate areas... I'll see if I can grab a seat clamp off of an older bike that I have in the garage that lacks a quick release.

Just buy a new one if you can, as they are pretty cheap and then you can get the shop to measure the size to ensure you get the correct clamp. I'd imagine under $5 US. You can get a variety of colours too. If you do, remember to put a smidgen of grease on your post before you slide it in.

I'll stop by an LBS tomorrow if possible. I went into the garage to check the old bikes, and just had to get on the new saddle. I can't get over how nice it feels. I hope it is comfortable on longer rides!

Here's a pic from today. I was nearing the end of a 25 mile ride before work and I was thinking about all the "cockpit" pictures I've seen on here lately. I decided to bust out my phone and get a pic while riding. The watch is normally not there. I only have it on there when I'm "racing the clock." Today, I had to get home with enough time to get ready for work. Anyway...

Fingers crossed. I just negotiated a swap for a new saddle. I had an old set of wheels that I don't use, and a friend of mine has a saddle he doesn't want. My Tioga Fromunda Saddle isn't so good during summer. (less clothes / padding) I haven't seen the saddle but I suspect it'll be a goa. I'm excited.

Thanks. It's pretty much stock, minus the light and the watch. Like I said before, the watch is only on there when I'm on a ride and have to be somewhere at a certain time. The light is on there all the time

Ok, I got the new saddle but I have a small problem. Two friends tell me I should most definitly not put it on my Hybrid. They believe it's a sure-fire way of getting my bike stolen. Yes it does happen sometimes here, but rarely. I think they are being paranoid just quitely, but now they have me worried. I didn't even consider it a risk.

Anyway, they say I should swap my road bike saddle onto my Hybrid, and use the new one on my Road Bike.

I still want to use the new one on the Hybrid. Yes it's a billboard I know.

The new one

The one currently on my Road Bike.
