Alfie, cross means hybrid. Cross breeding, hybridization, same thing. I think you would enjoy a better bike and I hope you can figure out a way to get one, but we'll miss you if you quit posting here. I think I speak for the other hybrid forum members to say even if you get a thoroughbred race bike, you're always welcome to post here. :)

I don't think you ride dirt, so a road bike might be a better choice for you. Join a club, training rides, maybe racing? :) You're having fun on your K2 which seems to fit your needs ok at this point in time, so don't stress about upgrading. If you can pull it off, great, but in the meantime continue to enjoy your bike. :)

Specialized Crosstrail Elite

Great picture. Welcome to BikeForums! Ignore those who want to see it from the drive side in front of a white garage door.

This post made me smile :). I don't think I will ever get a racing bike. That is, of course, unless someone else pays for it ;). Out of all the bf subforums, this subforum is my favorite! Oh and you and [strike]giantcfr1[/strike] that crazy Australian guy are my favorite people on this forum (no offense to the rest of you).

I don't ever ride dirt (unless it's a detour on part of a paved path due to path maintenance), so a road bike would be my best bet... But they're so damn expensive. I love my K2, don't get me wrong, but I would like to eventually get a better bike. There's this guy here in Denver who builds bikes and gives you credit for your old bike. He built my friend's Jake the Snake. It has the wheelset from his mom's old road bike, and most of it is likely from his mom's old bike. I'd bet that even the brifters are, because they are so old that they don't even have a gear display; most new Sora brifters (afaik) have a gear display.

His bike is perfect for me. It's my size (idk what actual size it is, but it fits me PERFECTLY). I'd like to buy it off of him, but he got it somewhat recently.

Oh and I am still unable to ride my K2. The new wheel is sitting in the shop, waiting for the mechanic to swap over the freewheel (or is it a cassette? Have I learned nothing from that thread? ;)) and loosen the bearings.

Oh, gee wiz, this has brought a tear to me eye.

Now on a side note, I was out relaxing for 10 minutes by Kamogawa (Kamo River) and clicked away. Yes we've seen the bike before, but I love my new phone and am now getting used to taking pics with it. If only I could post the 3D pics and video it takes.

Very snappy looking bike. ;) What's original on yours? frame / fork, brake calipers, cranks and front chain rings and seat clamp?

Mine: frame / fork, wheel set, stem, cranks and chainrings, shifters, front and rear deraileurs. The rest broke.

The saddle is Selle Italia Flite Gel Flow.
You know what is the usual price but i picked it in LBS from the box, newer used but with the sticker - "tester", for $50.

It is a good saddle but personally I would never pay more than $75. Simply because it is not much better (more comfortable or lighter) than Nashbar R2 (velo/Skye), which is on sale now for 24.99.
Looks cool though.
I needed a week or so to break it in. First I tried for couple of rides and put back my nashbar saddle. Then i started to think "what the heck ..Everybody saying that this is a good one..Let me try it again". And it finally worked.

What is left from original - frame, fork, wheels (front wheel on the picture is just a temp. replacement).
Everything else was replaced.
105 rear der./cassette.
Deore front der and crankset.
Avid sd 5 brakes.
LX levers and shifters
Ritchey Pro stem/seatpost
Ritchey Comp handlebar...

Probably will change the wheels to decent roadies... may be not.

Not a hybrid, nor is it mine. As a thank you for letting me use his bike, I asked my friend if he wanted new bar tape. He said yes. So I asked him what color he wanted. He said hot pink. I said no, really what color? He said he actually wanted hot pink. I think hot pink tape on his olive green frame would look awful. Luckily, when I got to the shop, they only had white, black, and yellow. I told him this and he chose yellow. His old tape was really dirty white cork.

How did I do in wrapping it?

Hey crazy Aussie... You're missing a reflective dot on the drive side of your front wheel between the 7th and 8th spoke to the left of the valve. Just sayin' :innocent:.

I know where you're coming from. Because I polish the wheels (advantage of discs) Often the polish creates a slippery surface and I have to wait until it wears a little before I replace.

Thank you! :) I still think it would've been a better picture with a nice fancy camera! this was a cellphone camera picture

The few times I've had my bike in Chicago, I haven't taken any pics. Seeing cool pics like that makes me wish I did stop to take a few pics. Oh well. Maybe next time.

ColombianGT 09-11-11 06:11 PM

I'm at this location 2-3 times a week on my 20 mile round trip ride. If you're in town, you're welcomed to join for a ride/photoshoot

I'll send you a PM before I head up to the city again. If you're ever wandering the trails in NW Indiana, let me know. There aren't too many scenic areas until you get into Porter county... That'd be quite the trek for you; I'm assuming you live in the city.

Managed to get my 2012 Coda Sport back home just before the HEAVY RAIN came pouring down! Got most of my accessories on, here's the proof! :)

ColombianGT, that is a nice looking bike. And I'm always a fan of bike pics with the Skyline in the background!

Do you live in the city and commute?

I will still be pretty active here, though. It is a Kona Jake the Snake (I don't know what year) frameset built up with an unknown shimano triple crankset (I didn't look at it), a Deore rd, I don't know what fd, a wheelset, Sora brifters (8sp). A CX bike is a hybrid in its own sense of the term.

Just gave my friend back his CX bike. :(

I have $250 right now that I can spend on a bike. For my birthday, my parents are going to give me some more money to put towards a bike. I found a Felt F90 on craigslist in my size (I think it's my size... Size and fit differs between manufacturers) for $450 and I offered him $350. I'll see if my parents will give me my birthday present early. If not, then I just wasted a couple minutes of the seller's time.
