Looked like a mtb with balloon tires to me. Only after reading this reply, did I go back and notice the single chain ring and the rigid fork which looks like a suspension fork on first view.

Reminiscent of the Bontrager Switchblade, a highly regarded fork from the pre-Rock Shox days. OK, a little Googling reveals those are Bonty Switchblades! On the other hand, I can not seem to verify that they were called Switchblades when they came out (according to below link) in 1987 (or '88?), but the Tange Switchblades, which came out a few years later are pictured here. I believe Keith Bontager licensed Tange to use his design.

Anyway, very cool bike. Needless to say, the original Switchblades weren't carbon.

My latest acquisition, purchased for the grand sum of $35 bucks, a Minelli Mt. Echo. It is in fact a mountain bike, circa 90's I'm guessing, but could be considered a "hybrid" from what I've learned here, as I replaced the flat bars with riser bars, fitted the wheels with city tires, fitted fenders on the bike, installed a comfort saddle, and fitted the bar ends in a way to simulate "North Road" cruiser-style bars, when that kind of ride is more desired (though the bars are much twitchier in this mode, and you lose fast access to the brakes). I find the bike exteremely comfortable to sit in and ride, somehow despite the hunched over position. It feels like I could do hundred kilometre tours with it without undue fatigue or pain (apart from the palms, due to the position of the bars, unless I wore cycling gloves).

Cappy, you are correct, the bike is putting you in a good position for longer rides. You are not hunched over. My grips are 2-3 inches below my saddle, and I'm not hunched over. I forget why, but it's better to have your handlebars kinda low. Fix your bar ends. I don't think you like the twitchy feeling. You will soon come to enjoy the benefits of bar ends in the normal orientation, pointed forward slightly upwards from the horizon.

Congratulations. You are the new winner. Best hybrid yet. Thanks for breaking the tie. We couldn't decide between Sh00k and WCpeddler who were sharing the lead. A stem parallel to your top tube would have scored better, but for now you have a nice gap on the field.

I'm wondering something... who is this "we" that you are referring to? You are the only one in this thread saying this or that bike is the best. And besides you, who says that this is any kind of contest? The purpose of this thread is not to see which bike is "best", it's merely to post pictures of hybrid bikes -- there's no contest here, hence no winners or losers.

fwiw: Nice that you think my bike is cool, but I didn't design or build my bike, Kona did.

If you click on the BMC it opens in a small window. If you click on it again it opens in a big window. Click on it a third time and it gets even bigger.

Nice machine, nicely photographed. Your cat had to get in the shot. We love that.

Wanderer 08-30-09 03:27 PM

Thank you - if you look real close, you can see both cats. Bonnie is in the left door, Clyde in the right.

Wow...Wow...Wow...most beautiful thing I have seen!!!.

Are those used Magura hydraulics? I had a couple mountain bikes with them back in the mid 90's. Do they still sell those new? Now that I look closer at that pic. Do you really need that mtb cassette on the back? What is that an 11-34? Seems like overkill for the street if you are moderately fit.

KShep, we overlooked your bike. Evaluation forms could not be completed because of the odd angles of your photos. We would appreciate a level, square image. Based on existing evidence you are tentatively in second place. WSpeddler has disqualified himself from the competition. shOOk has a very tenuous grasp on third unless he flips his stem.

Thanks for the consideration. I hope you didn't have to mangle too many evaluation forms on my account.

Apologies for the odd picture angles. I was unable to locate the garage door clicker. The door was up, but sun was out and so was the camera so I shot her in the first place she would stand up. Another photo opp may present itself when her new shoes and saddle arrive at which time the only images presented for preservation here will be level and square. :)

Is that a Terriercam or bark collar around her neck. Come to think of it, if you borrowed RiverCity Cycler's camera and strapped it to her, could make for a good video. Have River City do the editing.

Maggie & i apologize for hijacking this thread.

I covet RiverCities cycle cam.

The device around her neck is a reciever for the invisible fence...terriercam would be a hoot.

Hmmm... I don't think he is joking. I get the impression that he's quite serious. If you look at other threads in this forum, he knows exactly what looks best and what is best for everyone. Personally, I think all the bikes in this thread are cool and whatever works for someone is what works -- but that's just me -- after all, they're just bikes.

Maybe we should get back to posting pictures of bikes?...

(Oh, cute dog, btw.)
