You'll need a road bike for that stance.

JeePakXJ 05-02-12 08:04 PM

Yup, i just put the seat horizontal and brought the bars back up. I have my inaugural 20mi round trip to/from work tomorrow (since its been raining like every morning here in SoFlo) so ill report back tomorrow how this new stance goes, ill post a pic of what it looks like now tomorrow when i post.

My wife gave her, KHS Vitaimin A, fitness bike, to our daughter Jenn so she could see if she wanted to get into bicycling. The Vitamin A was Jo's "commuter" so we started looking for a used, replacement. We had a bicycle rider get "robbed and stabbed", last week so we decided to find a bike that would do the job but wouldn't be what a thief would want and if they did, it wouldn't be a financial burden to replace it. We picked up a 1994 Nishiki Bravo A, 17 in. "ladies" framed bike, LOL, it was considered a MTB in it's day but it's more a "non-supension" hybrid bike" in this day and age and should do the commuter work just fine.

Great looking bike!! Good job!!

AlphaDogg 05-05-12 11:32 PM

My friend's hybridized trek MTB got stolen (it had really nice super puncture resistant Bonty H2 tires at $50 apiece), so he got a Trek 8.3 DS. I'll get a picture asap.

pammieellen 05-05-12 11:37 PM

I'm sorry to hear that. . . thinking back my first twenty two years of my life - we had four bikes stolen in the family (Raleigh Mixte 3 speed, Raleigh Sport, Mongoose BMX and Ross Road bike)! Ridiculous!

If you want the bars lower you can probably turn the stem upside down. The other option would be to put some longish bar ends on to allow you to stretch out and get into a more aero and aggressive position.

my bike with topeak trunk bag dxp attached...

Igo 05-06-12 04:58 PM

Noe that's a commuter.

AlphaDogg 05-07-12 10:03 PM

My friend's new bike. I'm convinced it's too small for him, considering the seatpost height. Granted, I haven't actually seen him on it yet...

..

Fine looking bike but you may be right about the size, unless he has a short trunk and long legs.

X-LinkedRider 05-08-12 03:55 PM

Keep in mind, that top tube is VERY slanted.

AlphaDogg 05-08-12 06:03 PM

I saw him riding it today and I think he just set the post too high for his leg length. It looked like he was barely touching the pedal with his forefoot when his legs were fully extended.

They look way better in car headlights, and I'm still in awe a black sticker can light up white. Retroreflective stuff is awesome. It's www.ridewithfiks.com and they have other colors as well in 26" and 700c/29er sizes.

brandini, those reflective rims are pretty cool. A few companies paint some of their wheels with a reflective coating, but it's good to see a similar solution for applying to any wheel that still looks clean.

brandini 05-09-12 07:40 PM

Thanks! I'm actually impressed on how they turned out! I just have to leave the bike in the sun and poke the bubbles with a needle so they'll bleed out and I'll be set!

Changes are a new saddle (Selle Italia Filante) and the second bottle cage. Also lowered the stem 5mm.

Nicely done

Fiery 05-13-12 07:36 AM

Thanks!

By the way, how's the Romin 130 been working out for you?

giantcfr1 05-13-12 07:44 AM

No problem what-so-ever. I'm lucky that it seems to fit perfect, but being white, my new jeans left blue denim stripes on it. I cleaned it though with a mild detergent. BTW, I got the Romin off a guy very cheap $5, because he used it and he said it gave him hip problems. My guess is he needed the next size up.
