My current ride at the Grand Canyon

Here is a pic of my soon to be replaced 95 Mongoose Crossway 850 on the Grand Canyon South Rim Greenway. Without a doubt this ride was the most scenic my wife and I had ever done in the 40 years we have been riding.

This is a better shot of the two of them on my new Kuat NV rack on the back of our smart car.

During the week I did a ride to Osaka and almost died with the wind blowing against me. Unfortunately it turned against me on the way home. The bike though, felt fantastic with the recent changes (tyres, shorter stem and clipless pedals)
This is my pathetic effort...

I was really sh1tty because on the way to Osaka I was imagining a TT all the way back to Kyoto to lift my average speed. Sadly it dropped lower.

Update Trek 7.5Fx

Fit a Tubus Fly on my Trek 7.5Fx today, 'cause I was tired of carrying the backpack every day.
Together with an Ortlieb bag it looks pretty good imo.
The Tubus Fly is extremely light and looks very well built. Definitely worth the price tag.

(Oh yea, these limited edition Ortlieb were significant cheaper dan the classic ones. Don't ask me which country I live in....)

That must be an optic illusion. The bag is completely symmetric.

WOW! I just finished cruising through the entire thread and I have to say there are some great bikes here, but one thing struck me as a bit odd. About 1/3 of them are just flat bar roadies, so I looked up the 'Post your flat-bar road bikes' thread and was a little shocked. Unless your road bike has drop bars, your in for a verbal tongue lashing. The hate/disrespect/dislike (you pick one....or all for that matter) is either comical or sad, or depressing, depending on how you take it. As for me, I'll post pics of my flat-bar roadie/hybrid as soon as the weather clears. Until then, I'll steer clear of the road bike sections of BF and hang out with you guys.

fyi, that 'flat bar road bike' thread started in Road Bikes, where most of those lashings occured, then the moderators moved it over here, and it promptly calmed down.

my univega has threads and when i uprgraded to a traditional road bike i put them on my road bike. i feel it has more traction and if you hit loose gravel or anything it does better. but thats just my opinion

My Trek 8.3 DS

Pics from the drive side. My apologies for not shooting from the ds in a previous post. I've since learned from looking through about 140 of the 185 pages in this thread. Now I need to figure out how high the resolution can be and still upload. My phone camera takes very good high resolution pics, but they're too large and I'm using a very low resolution setting to make it work. Any tips?
I'm really enjoying looking through all of the posts. Ya all have some incredible bikes and I'm amazed at the knowledge base, the creativity, and the willingness to share ideas. Well, the DS is 2 weeks old today and has no miles on it!!! Maybe this weekend I'll be able to get it out on the road. I've taken off reflectors (no night riding until I get lights) for a cleaner look and added cages/bottles. I'll be ordering clipless pedals and shoes next Friday. I would like to take the dork disks off for a cleaner look. Am I that much at risk for the chain jumping into spokes? I'm an old roadie. I've never had them and never had an isue. I don't plan on very rigorous off-roading. Please give opinions.

I'd recomend 640x to 800x for web forum pictures. maybe as high as 1024x

you cna get away with somewhat larger pictures if they are hosted at a photo site that allows linking, like picasaweb.google.com or flickr or smugmug.com or whatever, then you just put the picture URL between ... those sites will automatically generate a range of sizes for you.

I can't tell you how many times I've had the wind turn around with me and continue to blow against me on the return ride. Somewhat off topic, but a couple years ago a buddy and I rode out about 35 miles and averaged 18 mph. I thought that was pretty good, all things considered; I was riding my Trek. It wasn't until we turned around that it dawned on us. We were riding with a pretty brutal tailwind. We had a hell of a 35 mile ride back.

Just thought id let you all know you guys/gals have some beautiful bikes . I really don't know what category my bike is but here she is 2008 SE Racing STOUT 29er - only thing stock are frame and wheels . Its started out as a single speed flat bar to a BMX to a geared Trail bike . I just ordered a set of Contis 700x35 and Dirt Drop bars . All in all in heading into road/cross direction . My new iphone5 mount i modified for a complete onboard view .
