Bike Forums - Post pictures of your Hybrid

My BikeCad rendering of a bike based on a 55cm Handsome Devil frame, which I ordered about an hour ago, and the components I already have or plan to buy. This will be replacing the 1995 Trek 730 that I've been retro-fitting for the past 1.5 years. It came down to geometry and my choices were to have a custom fork built for the Trek and then getting the frameset powdercoated or just buying a new frameset. The cost would be the same and I've been riding a Trek 730 since 1995 so new-bike-itis set in.

The Handsome Devil seems to be aimed at the same market as the Surly frames. It's got 73 degree parallel head/seat tubes, a 45mm rake fork, 43.6cm chainstays and 70mm of bottom-bracket drop. I expect this to result in a ride that is stable while still feeling quite responsive. In fact, the Devil is based on Bridgestone/Grant Petersen's legendary XO-1, which was designed as a fast and agile street bike.

FD-770 Flat Bar Shifters
GATORHARDSHELLS 700 x 23c
Bike weight was a little more than expected : 20.5 pounds

I love riding with Flatbars, this bike turned out GREAT.
Handles good, with fast starts, easy on my back, smooth riding, perfect for an all around town bike,
Really pleased with the mods. :D

The wheels I've got are custom built 40-spoke Velocity Dyads and I'll be using Deore V-brakes. I'm still deciding between the Deore trekking crankset and a sugino xd 46/36/24 but I've got an 11-28 9-speed cassette on right now...may tighten it up to 12-25. If I go with drops it will likely be Nitto Noodle. I've always ridden 10 miles or less but I want to start taking part in local events and jump into 20, 30 and more mile rides. My hands hurt after 10 miles so I'm considering drop bars for the longer rides with v-brake compatible road levers.

Forgot to mention my tires, which are Vittoria Randonneur Hypers in 32mm. When they wear out I might replace them with the 38mm versions. I also have a set of new 40mm Schwalbe Duremes that are very comfortable but more sluggish than the Hypers. I may experiment with each set of tires to see which is better for longer rides.

I weigh about 380 so that's why 1/3 the cost of the finished bike will be in the wheels.

The bike is billed as an all-rounder so it's probably like the Cross Check in that it can be used for lots of things (like cyclocross) but probably won't excel in any. It really is a hybrid with it's road bike geometry but hybrid/mountain bike chainstays and tire clearance.

I've been riding since 1995 but this is the first time I've held a bare frame in my hands and I must say, it's a bit scary. There just isn't that much there and at 5 lbs, I know this is not a particularly light frame.

I've decided to switch the upper components to silver since the frame is so dark that black on dark blue wouldn't look good to me. I finally decided to stick with mtb bars and I'm going with a Deore 48/36/26 crankset so I'll have an easy option to add indexed shifting at a later date. This rendering is pretty much correct even down to stem angle, although the length might vary my 10mm one way or the other, depending on fit.

I am the first to admit that I don't know much about hybrid bikes. I picked up this Gazelle Furore yesterday for my wife. It has a sticker that says city hybrid. I know it is a Dutch made bike as the seller stated in her ad. The woman I bought it from is from the Netherlands and brought it with her when she moved here a couple years ago. I don't think they are imported to the US. It has a 7 speed internal hub and drum brakes. I paid $75 for it and I think it was a good price since she said she got a huge response to her CL ad. As far as I can tell it sells for about $750 dollars new. It is in excellent condition. If anyone can supply any information about this bike it would be much appreciated. Thanks.

again few changes on my Giant Seek :twitchy:

tires: Specialized Borough Pro foldable 700x42 (440g, 120TPI)
stem: Giant Connect SL 100mm, 8 degrees (115g)

still waiting for Eggbeater pedals to arrive and need to cut off the steerer tube...bike as pictured is 11.4kg (25lbs)

Regarding the tires; after looking the internet for maximum clearance I found that a couple of Seek owners claimed that nothing beyond 700x38 will fit in rear triangle. Well - WRONG! :D It fits 700x42 tires just fine and clearance is still in saftey zone.

Regarding the tires 2; first impressions are that I should bought a narrower tires and gain a little bit more speed :D
These are light, well rolling but to wide for road riding...
