My little wife's new bike....it's the extra small I believe it's a 13" Schwinn Sporterra NX8

After a nice ride on Sunday the seat had to go & I added the old Bontrager Crivitz bars off my Sawyer & the old seat off my Motobecane Jubilee.

I'll probably steal them tires for my Kona...get her something around 2".

will 50mm tires fit on that frame? I'd want a good 10mm clearance on all sides of those 700x38's before I'd fit 700x50. those chain stays look tight.

Looks like it will fit a lot bigger tire...I'll play around with it some tomorrow ...measure etc.

Here's my Motebecane Jubilee with a few needed changes.

I probably ride this bike more since I have it at work for 28 days...some guy borrowed it to go to the store and stripped out the crappy twist nexus shifter. I upgraded to the Alfine 8 speed shifter and couldn't be more happier!

Also I replaced the grips with original ones that came with my Sawyer and the saddle came from my Schwinn Tempo. It is really comfortable and fun now!

I think I would like to eventually replace the fork with a rigid steel one.

Nice Jubilee. I've always been interested by the alfine integrated hub. I was even looking into the belt drive bikes with alfine for a low maintanence commuter bike. How is the gear range? Low enough for climbs? High enough to hit high speeds?

The Nexus & Alfine 8 spd I believe to be the same except the Alfine is set up for Disc Brakes. So far the 8 speed has been the most reliable and you can set it up for speed or hills depending on the rear cog & chainring you use. I'm running 42X18 =(2.4:1 ratio) on my Kona for a little more speed than my Motobecane at 42X20 =(2.1:1) My Sawyer being a 11 speed I have at 36X20 (1.8:1) set up more for hills but still has plenty of speed. I have 34t chainring I can change out if I travel to a real hilly area.

Since I had my old Sawyer 29er rear tire I put it on to see. Bontrager 29.3....says it 29x2" (44-50) measured by my calipers barely 44mm & almost 10mm still left between chainstay and tire.

Also those Continental Double Fighter 2s (37-622) only measured 34mm.

Not my hybrid, but I ride a belt drive touring road bike with Alfine-8 IGH (Civia Bryant). It's fine for South Jersey where it's flat, but if I take it to much hillier places, I find that the lowest gear can be a little bit tall for the steep stuff. Top gear is good up to maybe 35mph max for me. I ride on 700x25 tires and I have 50T front, 24T rear belt cogs with 118T length belt. This nets a 2.083:1 ratio. I'm planning to keep this bike as it is for touring and long-distance riding duties, but I am shopping for something much sportier for my weekly club rides and for my indoor trainer. Maybe a Breezer Venturi.

Well, it's a, Hybrid in the making so to speak. I've picked up a 1995 Research Dynamics Coyote 2 in great shape, it's a 90's low end MTB but I'll be changing bit's and pieces to turn it into my hybrid "utility/trailer tugger"! Not a bad start for the measly sum of, $45.00!
