As this is the thread that inspired inspired me to get a hybrid this summer - I thought I'd better give back and share too.

Specialized Sirrus Elite - on the Iron Horse Trail in WA. Thanks to everyone for posting - especially the guy that had that super sharp black Giant Seek in the middle of the thread.

Congrats on your new bike! The Sirrus is a very nice bike. I was torn between the Comp and the Trek 7.5 FX!

You sure make me want to try the Iron Horse Trail sometime rather soon.

I have to echo flan48's comments, Nice bike (and not "pedestrian"). I have owned a Jamis Coda since '02 and it competes very well with many high end flashy bikes. This past weekend I demo'ed a Giant Revolt gravel bike and it rattled my fillings out compared to my Coda. Steel is real and very smooth compared to some of the so-called drool bikes.

The frame is only a 51 which, while I normally would take a 46, is still at my upper limit. I also prefer a slightly larger frame than normal and I can still stand over the frame (although a quick dismount to the frame would leave a slight squeal as everything repositions over the frame )

How do you like the hydraulic brakes? Did you also test the FX series? I am currently considering the FX, due to the extra weight of the DS. However, I do like the front suspension DS has.

I would pick an FX unless you plan on riding off-road a lot. I actually bought an 8.4 DS thinking the disc brakes and front suspension would be good to have. I happened to test-ride a 7.5 FX 2 days after I made the purchase on one of my regular routes and decided that its carbon fork and V-brakes were good enough. I exchanged the DS with the FX the next day. This may not apply to everyone, but I thought I'd share my personal experience.

[ADD] I'm sure the disc brakes will come in handy in incremental weather. I do ride in the rain, but not when it's pouring down.

Thanks, Daihard. I am leaning towards 7.2 FX with Disc brakes. There are a lot of hills in the area where I ride, hence my preference for disc brakes and lighter weight without the front suspension. 7.5 FX is nice, but I have a carbon road bike and thought it'd be best to keep the FX under budget.

    You're welcome!

Do disc brakes have advantages over rim brakes on hills? (Just curious. I'm relatively new myself.)

I'm sure that depends on the road condition, weather, and the type of riding. I'm looking for better braking power overall for downhill reasons and weather.

I didn't try an FX. Wanted a DS without a doubt. Tried the 8.3 w/o hydraulic disks and then the 8.4 with them. Huge difference in braking.

I have a GF Utopia (the predecessor to the DS bikes) and my wife has a 7.2 FX. I used to take mine off road occasionally but haven't in over a year. I still like riding mine over the FX bike. My wife and I are about the same height so her bike fits me well and mine fits her well. Now, she enjoys riding her FX more than the DS. The geometry is different. I'd recommend trying both and seeing what you like and what feels right for you.

I changed out the seat, handle bars and shifters since I got it.
I'm thinking about getting a mountain bike next.

I have the same bike in the Gray. I love mine just as well and I have had mine since July and I have put some miles on mine. I just need a few accessories I want to add to it.

An old Cannondale bar bag. The frame bag is an old Kirtland, and the seat bag is a Jandd.
