I see you've replaced the KMC crankset with a 105. First, did you keep the stock Bottom Bracket (is it even compatible?) or throw in an Ultegra bracket? Also, did you keep the microSHIFT shifters or change them over to something else (I've looked for 105/Ultegra trigger shifters but they don't seem to exist)? I've been considering this bike and would like to know in advance what's worth swapping out (in case the shop will give me credit/put them on for free when building the bike). :)

Yea, I switched everything to Shimano.
You're right, we used an Ultegra bracket, as the LBS told me, the FSA bracket is not compatible. TBH, bracket cups are affordable. Something like 16 euros for Ultegra.
The MicroSHIFT shifters are now sitting in my garbage bin. They are heavy, unresponsive, and the gears indicator is so poorly made that it starts vibrating awfully when you ride on pavement.
I bought Shimano SL-RS700 shifters (non serie components). Good luck finding them in Europe, I had to import from Taiwan. Shimano availability is... ....poor.

I also swapped:

-The wheels. Stock wheels are built like a tank, but also heavy at 2100 grams.
-The seatpost, for the same reason. Even if it's carbon, too heavy.
-The saddle. My butt demands Fizik Aliante.
-Handlebars. Schmolke Carbon it is! Stock bar is soooo wide....
-You cant use Spesh grips with a carbon bar. Ergon GS3 then!
-The pedals, as I ride clipless (Shimano XT)
-Cassette. Ultegra cassettes do not bite as much in the freehub. Ultegra 12-25.

Thanks for the reply. Looks like I have some upgrades in my future (when/if I get the bike, which hopefully I will). :thumb:

Do the RS700 shifters even have gear indicators (I couldn't see any when I looked them up)?

I've also thought about getting the Dura-Ace cables in red (to match the bike theme) but then the brake hoses would still be black and I can't decide if that'd look silly lol (although the hoses could be heat-wrapped in red, since they run down the body of the bike it's probably better to leave them black either way).

How are you guys liking those bikes? The 2015 Absolute 1.5/1.7 and the 7.3 are both on my list of potential buys.

Loving mine so far. Gears shift smoothly. The bike just flies. One minor complaint is the ride quality can be rough depending on the quality of the street/path you're riding on.

What a nice bike, how do you compare the ride to your Sirrus Pro?

hamongle 04-28-15 06:21 AM

Wow, I like this BMC ACO1 8 and did the test ride for ACO1 11 two weeks ago but can't afford it. Very nice looking bike.

hamongle 04-28-15 06:35 AM

This Vita Comp (Large-21lbs) fits me better than the Sirrus Pro (Medium-19lbs) and cost less than half of the price.
So far with 70 miles feel like to ride more with the Vita, the speed the same (suprised me), gears changed smoothly, etc..... (Also, I changed the vita's tire from 700x23 to 700x28). Sirrus Pro came with the 700x30 tire but I got flat so changed it to the ALL CONDITION ARMADILLO 700x28.
I will sell the Sirrus Pro to a friend when he's ready.

No gears indicator on Shimano shifters:

If you need them, it could be annoying.

Thanks for the compliment. I get comments about it all the time. A Pro Carbon Disc is an awesome bike and if I wasn't so set on a belt drive, I would have given it a serious look.

I did the same thing too, I sold my 2014 Sirrus Expert Disc and bought a bike more than half the costs and enjoy it more ( Jamis Coda). Makes me just pissed I did not tune in to cheaper value bikes more last year.

Yes, I agree, the top of the line bike sometimes is not worth the money. Last year, I bought the Devinci Wooky Carbon SL $3500 but had to return to LBS after 8 months because it got cracking noise at the rear wheel (or hub). Luckyly, I can get back 3K.

The MicroSHIFT shifters had indicators though, right? Also, did they have the ability to downshift more than 1 gear with one press (2 downshifts, 3 downshifts, etc.)? Do those new Shimano shifters?

Thanks again! (I'd just PM you but I don't have enough posts :( lol)

Cdtf 05-05-15 08:51 AM

3 Downshifts, just like the Shimano shifters.

Yea, the MicroSHiFTs had indicators.

I just got finished installing some Planet Bike Full Hybrid fenders on my fiance's '15 Liv Alight 3 and decided to take a picture. While I was at it I decided to take a picture of my bike too ('15 Trek 7.2 FX). Sorry for the crappy quality, it was a bit low light and didn't have the best focus.

Here's the one I just had built at my LBS. After riding it and trying out a Roubaix I'm torn on if I should go through with the purchase or betray the hybrid and get the road (I don't think my LBS was happy I had them order/build this one up and then hesitated but this is a lot of money and I want to make sure whatever I buy lasts me years). Decisions... decisions...

It's sexy either way, makes it a very tough choice lol.
