Well, my Dale originally rode on 7c's, but i ran into a set of 26" Coda/Mavics. I had to slap them on.

After full season of commuting on MTB I decided to go back to hybrid/commuter bike.

Kona Dew Plus with few bits and pieces (1x drivetrain, pedals, seat, grips, tires...)

Mike, I just purchased a Giant Escape 1, 2016. LBS told me the upgrade was on the fork being a composite type. I absolutely love the bike, have put 130 miles in less than a month

Super kool looking bike, just purchased a Escape 1 2016, this is a obvious upgrade, what makes up the additional $700?

Stock grips and just a $10 pair of Giant Contact aluminum bar ends that I grabbed when I bought it. Link Sorry, link is in pounds. Don't know how to get it to show US as it takes 10 minutes to load a website on this computer.

I'll jump in here and shamelessly plug for Ergon, their grips are so nice!!

GP1 no bar ends, GP3 small bar ends GP5 Large bar ends.

they have that in Fastroad now (flat bar version). I'd have to look again as I forgot what the frame options are.
Even the Al. Anyroads are nice. a bit porky (for longer rides) but nice!

The fastroad and anyroad are very different bikes. The fastroad is a flatbar roadbike. You cannot put nearly as wide of tires on it as the anyroad and it has a more agressive position compared to the anyroad.

I think the anyroad makes a great long distance bike as the position on the bike is much more relaxed. I know the anyroad is not everyones cup of tea but it sure makes a fantastic all around bike!

On my anyroad I really get this sense of being 'in' the bike. My wife has a Cannondale Quick Speed 2 which is a really nice bike also but it feels completely different. When I ride the quick I feel like I am on top of the bike as opposed to being 'in' the bike. I dont know how else to describe it. Both feel and ride great just completely different experience.

yes I said flat bar. Yes I said the Aluminum version of the Anyroad was porky (I've ridden it). Huge difference between carbon and aluminum. And I always thought God could read.

I do like my aluminum bar ends and the stock grips on at least the tier 1 Escape are ergonomic similar to the Ergons, but yes, the Ergons are really nice. I have so much other stuff to buy yet but I do want to replace mine with Ergons sometime.

Thanks! Can I ask how you slid the stock grips over? They don't appear to be plugged, rather they are just one piece. Did you drill them?

Absolutely you may. Literally pound the end of them with a dead blow or a rubber mallet (I had a rubber mallet.) It cuts the end of the stock grip in perfect diameter circle to your handlebar and then move the grip in the required distance. I couldn't figure out how to do it either until I read the simple trick here on Bike Forums. I think the bar ends came with a plug to plug up the end of the handlebar.

Well that really helps me out, thanks! I'll get some new pedals with the money I save by keeping the stock grips. The plastic ones make me nervous theyll crack.

The shop I bought mine at put metal pedals and toe clips on it. It was fine until I moved location and started riding in traffic having to flip the pedal over and wiggle the foot in before getting going. I took the toe clips off and my feet were squirming around all over the cheap metal pedals.

I bought these, Forte platform pedals. Paid $59 for them same as currently in the link. I LOVE them. My feet are stuck on them like glue. I really have to physically lift my feet up and off them to move my foot around. There are other similar pedals out there like the Shimano Saints and others at various prices give or take $20. I imagine they are all relatively alike.

Yeah, plastic pedals suck. Back in the day just riding a mile at a time with my 6 year old on a Walmart bike, I probably went through 5 pair of plastic pedals. That was a long time prior to me getting into actual cycling. Yes, the plastic ones will crack. They won't crack, fall off, and cause you to wreck, but they will split on the spindle axis in short time.

Posts like this make me glad these forums exist. Fantasticly helpful.

This is part of the reason I like these hybrid bikes- you really can do whatever you want to them, and upgrade as much or as little as you like. I'll take a look at those pedals!
