if you want to sit up straight, get a cruiser with longhorns. I have one I built up 30+ years ago thats quite a light and surprisingly fast ride, was a 5 speed in the late 70s, but is now a wide range 7 speed, every so often I upgrade it a little more

Im new around here and to the sport. This is my first bike in about 25 years. It's a 7.5 fx and I went and bought some bright a@@ lights that I probably will never use at the LBS. Also ordered some red Look KEO pedals from ebay. Im not buying anything else till I ride it.Those guys at the LBS will sell you there liver if you'd buy it!!!
Another thing, does Nike make a decent shoe for the look pedal?
if you're looking for cleat shoes that are more like regular shoes, check out the Keen Commuters (which are sandals), and they have another version thats more like a full sneaker
also, mountain bike shoes are easier to walk in than road racer shoes.
I like all the custom components SreaM. Not to mention I'm also a fan of the PCS-9 stand, probably the best investment I made after the bike.
I often see that set up come into our shop, usually owned by a drunk who has lost their DL to DUI's. I do really try not to be a bike snob, however, those people are using a bicycle because they have to and not because they want to. They have no respect for their bicycles or themselves and affect the public's perception of those of us who ride well maintained machines and follow the rules, ie. not riding on the sidewalk and or against traffic. That I find difficult to deal with and thusly lump anyone that has a bicycle set up like that with the rest of the DUIs.
I do however, still think that the aforementioned trek is atleast one, if not two sizes too small. I would have fought long and hard to get you on a proper sized frame. Sorry, but the customer is not always right.

For it's 1000 kilometers celebration festivities my bike got a complete cleaning, degreasing and regreasing
I lowered my stem by two spacers and installed lockable ritchey truegrips ... then I moved the old grips I had (the same but not lockable) to my aerobar to make long roads more comfortable.
I don't use the aerobar for difficult stretches of road, so the grips on them do not have to be as firm and steady as the ones on my flatbar.

Catch-22, and the bike's ultimate weak spot... it uses a 13/16" seat post. Thats just too thin for a 220 lber like myself. The original seat post (and the handlebars) are fluted aluminum. The original seatpost broke (and I managed to /not/ crash but rode through the bump). I've also bent a steel Wald post in it. I found another NOS fluted post on fleabay, but it was a 7/8 so my friend turned part of it down to 13/16" on his lathe, and that worked for a couple years, then I hit a bump on a dirt road rather hard and not only bent that post, but the seat tube started cracking just above the top tube. I've had it tig-welded with 2% chrome wire, but now I'm noticing hair cracks forming in the bar just left of the stem clamp. I think its time has past, and it likely will get parted out soon.
So I'm riding a hybrid now, as I pasted a few pages ago, with a late 90s Crossroads frame. I plan on giving it the same red powder coat treatment eventually in honor of this old cruiser.

Don't hate me for buying a mountain bike. It's a tank, but I wanted the ability to go mountain biking on occasion. Since taking this picture I've swapped out the fat tires for 1.5 Armadillos (hereby proclaimed hybridized!). Added lights, trailer hitch, bell. Replaced quick release skewers with bolt on type. Everything else stock and working well except the grips which are almost but not quite staying put. I've put about 100 miles on it so far. The first day riding it to work was in heavy rain, a real soaker. The main road was detoured because of flooding. The hydraulic disc brakes shined in those conditions, but sunshine would have been preferred.

FWIW, Armadillo isn't a specific tire, its a brand name for Specialized' puncture protection. There are many different Armadillo tires, such as Hemisphere Armadillo, AllCondition Armadillos, etc.
I've used the Hemisphere Armadillos 1.9's on a 26" cruiser and a 26" mtn bike that was doing city-bike duties, they rock for that (see the 2nd picture of my red cruiser, in front of the lake, a few posts up).
Nimbus 26 x 1.5 if you have to ask. The others are crap.
We'll let you slide...
