They're just really comfortable that way when I want a more upright position. Thought I'd give it a try and liked it so much it stuck.

Same I am wondering about that too. Those bar ends look very scary imagine if you get into a sudden stop and you kinda lean forward. Need padding on the chest to avoid chest/lung injury!

I could be wrong, but with the curve line on those bar ends, aren't they should be point to the front for your hand position instead?

No just the chain. My fault for improper adjustment. It happened a long time ago. I was going pretty fast. The spokes weren't broken but cut, some more than halfway through. I don't have spoke protectors on my bikes. I leave them on until I need to remove the freewheel, then I don't bother reinstall that part. ;)

They're back on!!!
Now that I have the 32mm tyres on, I've decided to go the full hog and go back to granny mode. d(^.^) No laughing. ;)

Ralph-"Unsafe at Any Speed"-Nader probably wouldn't approve, but I've never had a problem. These bar ends are definitely designed to face the other way, but this way just feels good.

So your turning into a mountain goat are you and what happened to the thingamagigy dodaky thingy that was on the rear deraillier I heard they snap off easy ?

Ahhh the thingamagigy I don't need because sram has one already built into it. ;) I changed because I have a steep challenge I used to ride up (I'll take a pic to expain) and I can't do it with road gearing. Mostly I just wanted a change because I think an MTB frame looks better with a long caged rear deraileur.

Makes sense seeing as Sram owns Avid. I know my XT deraillier needs one but they can snap at the thread very easy and I just know it'll happen to me. Loving the road tape on the bars.

It does feel good and I think worthy on any flat bar bike, just did my first tapping job on my C&V it makes me think of it on my hybrid.

They kinda make sense to me. Bike looks a little big but it works. Stretched out position has all the controls on so when you're tearin' it up you're always in the right gear and you're ready to brake. Long grinding climb in low gear? - Grab the barends sit up and spin away!

I've got a different solution for my desire to shift gears when I'm on "normal" barends. I moved the controls out there. When I'm on flatbar with barends I wanna spend 95% of my time on the barends, might as well have shifting and braking capabilities while I'm at it.

It does look interesting, its nice when people think outside the box and give ideas. This ones a perfect candidate for road bike bar tape "as above" and can be double or triple wrapped for extra thickness.

Before considering the safety issue, my first though was they might be more ergonomic flipped over so they curve down instead of up. You might think about trying that, possibly more comfortable and maybe safer that way.

It started out of a scrap-heap frame I snagged at the co-op for the price of the fork, wheels and headset. I fixed a burst chainstay with a carbon-fibre cast. It's held up so far. I do plan on putting a nashbar carbon fork on it and changing the bar position to something a bit more upright... haven't settled on where I want to be on that side. I run my shifters in friction mode with 50/34 on the front and 12-36 out back for a wide range with lows for anticipated touring needs. 2200 and deore respectively doing shifting duty. Cheap brakes but plan on going disc front when I upgrade the fork and maybe deore or lx level v-brakes on the back. It's a lovely ride and it still looks good if you stand back and squint a bit :)

I'm debating between tape and track grips on the flat bar. I won't put grips on 'til I decide on bar width. I've got the barends pushed in so that they're 52cm center-to-center at the moment and that might be the sweet spot for me. Gonna give it another couple hours in the saddle before chopping the bars and installing grips.

This is the integrated "rollamajig" on the sram derailleur.

Nice work there mate its good to see saved bikes and repairing and modding them is very satisfying.:thumb:
