I think it's a cool looking conversion. I like the look of the handlebars with the bar ends horizontal and tape wrapped, if they are actually bar ends and not complete bars?.

Here's my Surly Cross Check.....I originally built it with drop bars, but I find this configuration makes more sense for my style of riding.

Presenting my 2012 Sirrus Elite, purchased in late 2011 and ridden just a few miles shy of 900. I do tons of 20-30 mile blasts on this thing all the time. It handles basically any hill you could throw at it, along with good stability at downhill speeds. Over all I love the bike.

I agree. Several years ago 26" wheels were standard on hybrid bicycles.

I got my first job in a bike shop in 1990 or '91. Hybrids almost all had 700C wheels then. There were a handful of 26" bikes that were totally sub standard mountain bikes that may have been best used as heavy slow hybrids, but they were marketed as mountain bikes. Around the turn of the century (1999-2000), the 'comfort bike' trend started and most companies had a 26" bike that maybe some people called a hybrid, but was more of a hybrid between a basic mountain bike and a beach cruiser than a road and mountain bike (as most hybrids are).

I think you may be mistaken about 26" wheels being the standard size for hybrids at any point since the beginning of hybrid time.

So far I love them. Better (at least very different) than my last bike (at least from what I remember, it's been a while) but that was a Trek Mountain Track 800, probably a 94 or so.

Yes, those were the original bars. At first I was hoping to find actual mustache bars, but I like thumb shifters more than bar ends.

After cleaning my bike today, I was thinking how happy I am with my purchase, even tough it was back 5 years ago. What I love about the looks of this bike, are the clean welds. I know it's only "clay" under there, but it's nice to know the company goes to the bother to finish a job off.

I see (on the forum "Post pictures of your hybrid) you managed to attach it properly. How did you do this?
Why did you cut the fender short in front?

Oh yea, here's my Trek 7.5 FX (without the fenders) :

My rain bike is set up like that and unfortunately the water flicks back at my face at speed. It gives me the Edgar Britts!

Hello ApoZ,
I am curious as to your Trek 7.5FX -what year and size is it? I ask because I have a 2012 7.4FX, which is a 17.5 inch frame. A picture is attached. I notice that if I follow the line of the top tube and "extend" it, it would be below the top of the rear tire. Trek literature says that the 2012 7.4FX only came in one color, that which I have. Also, the female version only comes in a 17" and is a different color, so that can't be it:-)).

But I question why the top tube angle difference.
Anybody?

Thanks and best regards

Hi,
Mine is a 20" frame from 2010 and that's probably why the angle is different. I have a larger frame.
Nonetheless nice bikes aren't they ?

1/2 of a 26 & 29er. Just for a day or 2. A couple weeks ago I found a great deal on the 11 speed Alfine Hub & I'm having it put on the wheel now. I took the rear wheel off my Electra for the time being...1X7 now and only front brakes. Actually rides pretty good like this!
