So...how did it work? Is there some bottom support, or could gravity just drag the cup through?

I've seen those holders... the holder itself has tapered sides, and the cup is tapered. its not going anywhere unless you pull down on it so hard you crush the cup.

Ya, it's not designed for cups with no taper to them. If anything the cup can pop up over large bumps if you don't push it down hard enough. You have to cover up the sipping hole on the lid while transporting the cup (or use one of those coffee cups with a close-able lid.) The Portland Design Works one I got mounts very securely to the bar. I don't intend to use it to drink coffee on-the-go but just to transport the coffee home.

I like it but man that milk crate is UGLY, I'd have a nice portor rack or even a Wald basket on the front, that would look MUCH better, jmho, ymmv.

Just brought home today! 2012 Giant Escape 1. I had been looking at the Specialized Sirrus and Sirrus Sport, but after taking them both for a test ride last week they had me try the Escape 1 and 2. I don't know what exactly it was, but I just felt better on the Escapes. Got a steal on the Escape 1 since it was the last left. Of course I'd buy it during our first snow storm of the year, so I'm just staring at it in the basement.

Turned out they were having a buy one, get one 25% off, so my wife tried out a few and ended up getting one as well - A Giant Revel 4 W

Sorry for the large photo and thumbnail, I uploaded a thumbnail first and can't figure out how to remove it.

I bet you can't wait to take it out for a spin! It's a nice looking bike.

Thanks! I'm already getting antsy and it'll be a while before it sees the road.

I really like the look of that rack, if you don't mind me asking, what make is it?

Nice looking bike. I actually like the set-up how it is right now. For a decent medium trip bike, it seems like an almost perfect setup.

I'm looking at racks for my Insight at the moment, the Topeak and the Bontrager racks with the quicklock/remove systems, both interest me.
I like the look of the Bontrager rack because of the matt black powdercoat finish, but it seems like their bags are pricey compared to Topeak, with less variety too.
I'd be interested to hear opinions from anyone about the racks they use, or have experience of.... maybe I should just start another thread?

Topeak's got a nice, versatile system, and their bags (and basket) aren't priced out of line from others.

Whatever rack you get, I'd say to get one with extra bars on the sides like Juggler2's has. They help keep a stray pannier (especially a cheap, floppy one) from getting caught in the spokes.

Nice bike, I enjoy seeing the older bikes like this and don't think some of the new models have improved much, if at all.

I used to have this rack on my 26" Electra Cruiser...just recently moved it to the Sawyer and was surprised that it fit so well. I think I ordered it through Electra Bikes..can also get it on Amazon.

Since a few have added a photo, when they've added to their hybrids, I'm adding mine, this is my 2011 Jamis Allegro 1, I added trekking bars and full fenders and use this as my "trekking/weekend" machine.

Axiom has a really nice one, the Journey, with said side thingies.

very light *and* very strong. its made from relatively large diameter 6061 alloy tubing. rated at like 150 lbs, way more than most racks. also sits farther back from the bike so you're less likely to have issues with heel strikes.

Great looking bike. The bike looks perfectly set up for both short city stints and long countryside rides.

Wow, I've got almost the same bike: a red, 1997 Rockhopper with Zerolite wheels, converted to hybrid status. Great bike, eh?

My current ride at the Grand Canyon

Here is a pic of my soon to be replaced 95 Mongoose Crossway 850 on the Grand Canyon South Rim Greenway. Without a doubt this ride was the most scenic my wife and I had ever done in the 40 years we have been riding.

This is a better shot of the two of them on my new Kuat NV rack on the back of our smart car.
