After installing the Alfine Crankset I thought I would get some pedals that would match. Since I like the Wellgo MG-1 Pedals so much on my Fatty I figured I'd get some for my Dr. Fine.



I also put the original stem back on and I think I'm done with it for a while I hope. It is definitely a most comfy ride!

Got this a few days ago. 14 Giant Escape Rx Carbon.
Changes are replaced with shorter stem, Cannondale Quick Handlebar, Cateye computer, and maybe more comfortable tires later.

I have to ask, why you didn't ask the shop to swap the tyres at the time of purchase?
You should be able to go back and they change them still. I remember when I got my Cannondale years back, the bike shop suggested changing them, and then again I was able to swap the tyres about 2 weeks later. You will find the shop has a supply from other customers who did the same.

EDIT...I was just looking at your post on fitting. If your saddle is still in the same position as the photo you supplied, I suggest you also ask the shop to swap the set-back seatpost to a straight. It appears from the photo, you have the saddle pushed way forward. If you use a straight, your saddle will be better balanced on the seatpost than having all the weight forward. The Giant post you have is a two piece post and may snap at the join if your weight is not centred on the post.

Thanks for the advice Giantcfr1, I didn't think about swapping tires on purchase date. I am now getting used to them and like them.
As for the Seat, going to get it adjusted today. Its really too forward as you say, this bike is for a long torso person which I am not, I fit a Specialized Sirrus more.

Details: Guessing it is a late 80's BRC Ricochet and I upgraded the shifters, drive parts, and brakes to Deore level components from the lower level Shimano kit it had, and added the fenders after I paid the whopping price of $50.00 for it.

It really had no signs whatsoever of being ridden and it is a nice riding bike that is rather stiff and very responsive... frame and fork are chromoly and wheels are Ukai laced to nice Suzue hubs. It had 700:38 Ritchey cross tyres originally and now it runs a Kenda studded tyre up front and a Conti Speed King in the rear for winter.

I got the same bike. Looks like its built more for endurance/longer rides than the shorter wheelbase Specialized Sirrus. I cannot wait till the spring to ride mine.

OMG, Saginaw MI is a cold place. PS249, how often do you wish you could move to AZ, San Diego, Florida.
First thing I would do if my ship comes in is to live in a place where winter does not exist.

Money well spent I believe. I have always admired city bike with IGH, clean and simple look, low maintenance (less frequent for the gearing), very practical. Probably my future project, instead of upgrading to 10 or 11 (or 12?) speed cassette.

Here is my 1992 Diamondback Sorrento, before and after a few mods (handle bar, stem, seatpost and rack). The previously installed bar ends were not that comfortable and too far from the brakes, although they did provide a more upright riding position. New bars and stem do the same thing but a lot safer!! Old seat post had the 2 bolt clamp mechanism and slipped even when tight, new post has one bolt adjustment; for and aft and tilt. Rack is just a good thing to have as I like to carry tube, pump, CO2, patches, tools, first aid kit, phone and energy bars when I ride....just in case!

Got that right since I got it for like over 1/2 off MSRP! I have several IGH bikes in the family and I don't think you can't go wrong with a Nexus or Alfine 8 speed.

The RX is 1.5 inches too long for my torso, Its listed for sale on ebay, on the fence whether to keep it and just more shorter stems. The Sirrus I did not make one change and it feels like a tailored made suit. Its the more agile bike.
The RX is without question a more comfortable ride the wheelbase is 3 inches longer and it just coasts along while the Sirrus Ltd you feel more of the the road.

Yes but the 41 don't welcome flat bar road bikes on their subforum so we welcome them here as hybrids.

My 91 Schwinn Crosscut I'm currently setting up as a commuter/tourer style hybrid.



It's a db lugged cr-mo frame with cr-mo forks , stays and stem. I've replaced the straight bars for trekking bars, leather covered gel saddle with a Brooks B17, and the exage 400LX brakes for Tektro CR720's so far. Next will be a set of SKS Longboard fenders then 700 x 38 tires if they fit and if not then 700 x 35.
