Added the Planet Bike fenders and a rear rack. Also picked up some Origin8 Ergo grips and a Planet Bike tail light, but haven't installed them yet. Oh and picked up a spare tube and small frame pump.

Thanks for posting this..im planning to replace my Roam's fork with a rigid one. Now i know what it will look like.
Do you happen to weigh, how heavy is the original fork?

Do you actually have both bikes or did one replace the other? They both seem to be set up quite similarly...

I did this an almost all my bikes in the past, replacing the sus fork for rigid one... and never regret it
Original fork is 2+ kg...Surly is about 900 grams...

I replaced one with other...quite unexpected but I got offer that I couldn't refuse for black Roam Went back to Giant dealer and bought this one...
Specs are similar as I already knew how I wanted my bike to be set up...

Here is my 2015 DS 8.4 the day before it goes on a diet! I'm ditching the rack, kickstand, dog attachment, and few other small things to save some weight before I go on a diet myself!

Looks just right. The red accents with the saddle, pedals (and chain holders) and grips complete the three points of the front triangle. I like it.

I'm pleasantly surprised to see you be able to fit 2.10" tyres.

Has the 2015 DS range frame been changed to accommodate wider tyres?

With the 2013-14 models, I'm pretty sure Trek was saying that 47mm was the widest tyre a DS could take.

Yes, but please remember that these tires are not so knobby. Before I got them, my local Trek store was kind enough to let me try some other 29 x 2.0 mountain bike tires on, and with the knobs sticking out the sides, they would not clear. But luckily I wanted a set of tires for a mix of road and hard packed dirt use, and the XR0 tires in 29x2.1 fit perfectly. I also went tubeless, even though the tires are not "tubeless ready"! So far, over 800 miles with absolutely no issues, except for this:

I think I just built a hybrid... this Shogun Ground Breaker frame and fork were hanging in the shop and I had all this spare XT / LX and the wheelset of my Trek 7500 which have been looking for a new home for quite some time.

Nice to have a deep parts bin...

Great build @Sixty Fiver ! Would love to see more upgraded old steel bikes in here. With the increasing interest in gravel and dirt road bikes I think many of these old hybrids could deserve a second chanse with upgraded drivetrain and tyres.

Thanks... am presently getting in some nice miles in the U.P. (Michigan) where there is a nice mix of road and trails to explore.

In a small community things are 6 - 13 miles from where we are and we are right on the edge of The Porcupine Mountains so there is also a wee bit of climbing but the view at the top is worth the sweat.

My trek 7.5 fx

Got a 2014 trek 7.5 fx the other day at lbs for $650 couldn't pass it up. I ride mostly at local park with a 3.5 mile bike loop as I need a good fitness bike to shed 10-15 pounds.Coming from a specialized enduro this bike is pretty light. Rides smooth up hills with less effort, fast on flats and down hill.looking to upgrade tires to cont. 4000 S II and shed almost a pound
Loving this baby!
