Added the Planet Bike fenders and a rear rack. Also picked up some Origin8 Ergo grips and a Planet Bike tail light, but haven't installed them yet. Oh and picked up a spare tube and small frame pump.

Do you happen to weigh, how heavy is the original fork?

Do you actually have both bikes or did one replace the other? They both seem to be set up quite similarly...

Original fork is 2+ kg...Surly is about 900 grams...
Specs are similar as I already knew how I wanted my bike to be set up...

Here is my 2015 DS 8.4 the day before it goes on a diet! I'm ditching the rack, kickstand, dog attachment, and few other small things to save some weight before I go on a diet myself!

Has the 2015 DS range frame been changed to accommodate wider tyres?
With the 2013-14 models, I'm pretty sure Trek was saying that 47mm was the widest tyre a DS could take.

Bicycle Repair Man !!!
I think I just built a hybrid... this Shogun Ground Breaker frame and fork were hanging in the shop and I had all this spare XT / LX and the wheelset of my Trek 7500 which have been looking for a new home for quite some time.
Nice to have a deep parts bin...

Great build @Sixty Fiver ! Would love to see more upgraded old steel bikes in here. With the increasing interest in gravel and dirt road bikes I think many of these old hybrids could deserve a second chanse with upgraded drivetrain and tyres.

In a small community things are 6 - 13 miles from where we are and we are right on the edge of The Porcupine Mountains so there is also a wee bit of climbing but the view at the top is worth the sweat.

My trek 7.5 fx
Got a 2014 trek 7.5 fx the other day at lbs for $650 couldn't pass it up. I ride mostly at local park with a 3.5 mile bike loop as I need a good fitness bike to shed 10-15 pounds.Coming from a specialized enduro this bike is pretty light. Rides smooth up hills with less effort, fast on flats and down hill.looking to upgrade tires to cont. 4000 S II and shed almost a pound
Loving this baby!
