Great shots everyone. I've been gone from the page waaaay too long, spending most of my fitness time in the gym doing cardio and strength training but still getting out for an occasional ride. When it's less than 70 degrees with some clouds and drizzle on Memorial Day in Texas, I had to get outside and go for a ride on my 2013 Fuji Absolute 2.1. Here are a few things seen while out and about today...

Here are a few shots of the Lewisville Lake while riding on some of the roads and greenbelts. We've had a LOT of rain lately, so it's nice and full heading into the heat of the summer.

An example of widely varied modes of transportation. It's certainly easier to enjoy a couple of beers on one than the other...

It is Memorial Day in the USA, after all. For those of you in other countries, today is the day we honor those that have given the ultimate sacrifice in defense of our country.

The new space in our historic downtown area is a nice place to take a break...

Unfortunately, I was a bit early to grab some bbq and a beer. I need to time my rides better in the future!

I stopped to talk to a gentleman that I learned was down on his luck and homeless at present. He said one of the things he made sure to keep was his road bike. I was able to top off his tires and lube his chain, and help him out with a couple of Cliff Bars. While going through a tough patch, he had a great attitude. As far as what he had in his bottle carrier, he didn't offer, and I didn't ask...

My ride for the day. The original equipment Vera CityWide 700x32 tires with about 1500 miles on them did great in the wet today. It definitely needs a deep cleaning after today's ride. Cheers!

So this weekend was supposed to be 100km+ road ride weekend but the weather has been so crap: windy, wet and wild. Luckily it's a long weekend for the Queens birthday as due to commitments wasnt till today that the weather's been good enough and I got some time to ride, but not enough for a 100 so decided to hit the trails on the DS instead.

Nowhere near 100 but at least I picked up some elevation

Started off with one of my favourite rides up towards Mount Wellington. It's still cold out there today but pushing up hill keeps ya pretty warm.

Up down, up, down its a pretty hilly trail. Nice to do in the daylight as I often do after work in the dark which makes it pretty hard to see the trail and you don't have to worry about hitting wildlife at/after dusk.

Hope everyone's having a good cycling weekend

Hi everyone! I'm from Singapore and new to the forum. I took my 2010 Polygon Heist (it's like a cheap Trek DS) to explore what's left of the countryside:

Near a military training area.

Near a BBC transmitting station.

Snuck in some time for bird watching at the marshes.

Nests of a weaver birds swaying in the wind.

Welcome @bobbasaur ! I've ridden a few Polygons while travelling around Bali though most of them have been very poorly maintained hotel bikes

I'm over in Singapore next month and was hoping to hire a bike and have a ride around. There's no better way to explore (though I'm not sure i'm brave enough to take a photo of a military installation )

I haven't been in the cycling mood for quite a few months, although still commuting by bike.
Anyway, I did a small casual ride down to the ocean early this morning, as we have a weather warning for tonight / tomorrow. My favourite relaxing spot.

Spent last week on vacation on the Bruce Peninsula in Ontario. Got in a morning ride most days. My favorite was to Little Cove on the Georgian Bay.

Tested my new tyres and have to say they are the best I've ever used on my Hybrid. I'm extremely happy with their ease of mounting, weight, ride and minimal rolling resistance. Vittoria folding Zaffiro

You've done some interesting tire choices on your badboy. I believe I remember seeing it with small block 8's and sammy slicks. Could you, perhaps in a new tread, list and compare your different experiences a bit like what you reported about these Vittorias (easy of mounting, weight, rolling resistance, grip, ride quality). Also what motivated your choices and what kind of riding did you do on each?

At last I managed to get out cycling today from focusing on other sports the last 3 to 4 months. Pleased to say my cycling fitness has not suffered.
A cold mid winters day but the sun did show it self often. Great therapy cycling

ColdCase - your pics of the Island Line appear to be showing new crushed stone surface there.
Have they repaired all of the eroded areas of the trail then?
I rode it in July of 2011, and parts of it were sadly a mess.

The causeway is completely repaired and the bike ferry fully operational. There are just a couple rougher spots on the trail leading to it but not really an issue. I road the entire length (except beyond the ferry) and did not see any of the problems in your photos. There is some construction next to the trail and some repair work north of downtown, but nothing serious.. just noisy.. My uncut go-pro video of near the entire ride is too large a file to share. I'll have to work on that some rainy day.

Sounds weird but hopefully this is my last cycle ride for a while. My torn shoulder tendon will hopefully hold up back racing motorcycles next weekend and after that.

Rode from the city up into the hills also managed to ride up the infamous Cork Screw Rd. without stopping proving my cycle fitness is still good. Spring is just around the corner then summer and back on the road bike.

Thanks mate always nice to hear from the old timers around here. It's tough separating different activities and looking forward to more regular cycling.

Another attack today on the North South Track down here, one of the premier rides in Tassie. Biggest change this time was running the 2.1 Kenda Small Block 8s rather than the 38mm OEM LT3s. Didn't actually appear to be much faster (that being said it was much wetter and slippery than last time) but certainly felt safer: better traction and didn't have to pick my lines anywhere as carefully.

Yep I took the safer low road

We've had some rains lately which means all the streams are running well.

I'm envious of the riding down there Limbot.

I found another free weekend to cycle today. Could have been at a moto practice day but I'll save myself for an event next weekend.
Another typical ride from the city along the Torrens River, then along the coast and back to the city.

This is riding last weekend first ....

... and today
