My trusty Cannondale took me to the park today and to some nice gravel trails.
Someone needs a kickstand. :p |

Took me on a quick early morning ride around the neighborhood. This was the first decent bike ride I've done since winter, even if it was just around the neighborhood.
I wanted a good workout today so I took my 2015 trek fx out around the neighborhood and put 8ish miles on it. Then I went home but decided I wanted to ride more so I took out my 2016 emonda sl6 and did another 1.5 miles on it. And I don't have a ton of accessories added on either bike but the emonda feels like it's half the weight of the fx haha |

We took the bikes over to Clarke County Rec Area in Berryville, VA, for a Sunday afternoon ride. They have a very nice 3ish mile loop around the entire property. It's a 4-5' wide gravel path that meanders through woods, around ball fields, around a couple of meadows, etc. Absolutely perfect weather for a ride. Unfortunately, my kids weren't up for more than one lap (they spotted the massive playground when we first arrived), but I didn't finish the loop before snapping this pic of the bike along a pasture. |

This morning I took out the flat bar Madone out into the road. Rode into a nearby park where they are building a new waterpark and got to see this beautiful sunrise.

I finally got an opportunity to commute last Wednesday. The ride in was great, temps were in the low 60s but the humidity was up around 90 percent. The ride home was as not so great ... the wind was out of the southeast at about 15mph and of course I hat to travel southeast. I had to grind the entire 5.3 miles. I did have some time to get the feel of the 720 Multi-Track and figured out that the BB is screaming (almost literally) for some attention. Before the next trip I'm going to blow the BB apart and inspect it. I'm sure it's salvageable because the bike was never really ridden before I picked it up.

My new Sirrus on the old Mamalahoa Highway, now known as the "scenic route". Scenic, but not too smooth...

Took the Fuji out on her last ride before she's usurped. :)
Don't let anyone say you can't ride distance with a hybrid. Cyclemeter - Cycle - May 27, 2017, 9:23 AM |

Today, my Fuji Absolute took me down the road to recovery. I partially tore the Gastroc muscle in my calf behind my knee last weekend (simply stepping off a ladder - I'm really blaming it on turning 50 last week...) and decided to work some of the stiffness, soreness, and bruising out of it by going on a short, easy 8-mile ride on a local greenbelt. No standing in the pedals. No pushing for more speed. I simply enjoyed the ride. I still found I averaged a bit under 14mph, but I really enjoyed watching the scenery pass. The calf feels OK post-ride, but let me see what it feels like in a couple of hours...

Took a late evening ride yesterday, after the wind died down, stopped for a drink and noticed the setting sun behind me. Spectacular a bit later on the way home.

I'll do a longer sunrise ride tomorrow morning, but I went on a quick 11 mile ride last night before it got dark. Didn't plan to take any pics, but the Texas wildflowers were really blooming with all the rain we've recently had. Not the best pictures after I cropped them, but you get the idea...

I'm now starting earlier on my long Saturday rides, and just taking it easy, and absorbing the area that I don't see when driving my car. I enjoy stopping at new restaurants and pubs and lifting a beer or two while I cool off, I can almost ride indefinitely if it weren't for the lack of daylight and being "slightly" affected by the beers. |

Thats great to read that you got back on the bike despite your injury, sounds like a pretty painful on too. Sounds like you're doing it the right way too, us old guys just don't rehab as quick as we use to. I just turned 50 myself, and the aches and pains are slowly creeping up on me. I pulled my back for the first time in my life last week putting on socks while I was standing up. :(

Had a nice group ride to the Monastery of the Holy Spirit in Conyers GA. The ride goes thru the Panola / Arabia Mountain parks between Lithonia GA and Conyers. The ride is totally on paved trail thru the woods with just a few road crossings. I did a shortened version of the ride today and clocked 27 miles and over 2600' of elevation gain - very hilly here in Georgia!

The bike is a 2015 Cannondale Quick 4 that I purchased from REI in July 2014. It has taken me just about anywhere I have wanted to venture :-)
