A bit of danger never puts me off though

I've showed pic's like this before but this shows how far the coast is in relation to the city and the hills. One of my favorite rides follows the Torrens River from the hills to the coast though the city center....
My gosh, you are blessed to live in such surroundings.

Went for a ride with my mates in the morning (north on road bike), then for lunch went for a ride out to the village of Ohara (east on Hybrid) with my wife. I love riding with my wife as she has been riding single speed for the past 9 years and now that she has a geared bike, the mountain surroundings have taken on a new life for her.

First pics on my road bike (sorry about the bike but the area is beautiful)

The ride with my wife on the hybrid...

i never get tired of your pics giantcfr1, thanks

i rode 32 miles round trip to my girlfriends house. we had lunch and i went to a dept store and took a 20$ chance on a pair of black callaway micro fiber golf shorts which were deeply discounted to try wear over my new liner shorts which i was trying for the first time today. i rode in Nashbars cheapest with a pair of cut off sweat shorts on the way to Brooklyn, and i was very comfortable. i rode home in the AGU liners i bought which were on sale at Nashbar and they felt great but i started to feel a little tender near the end of my ride thought i'm blaming my saddle from now on, at least until i rule it out somehow. The microfiber golf shorts stayed remarkably dry, were quite comfortable, and not-for-nuthin' i think they look pretty snazzy too. i also ordered a Serfas RX saddle in the hopes that i can rid myself of the ever present saddle lumps. Upping my mileage per ride caused some of my gear to become, obsolete i guess. Personally I can probably ride 20 miles in chain mail armor if i had to, but anything over 20 miles and i start to need much more purpose specific gear to ensure comfort.

i sent my gopro into the manufacturer so i rode without my camera. i think the jack for my external microphone needs to be fixed, or the camera needs to be replaced.

i got to use my mini speaker for the first time in awhile, which was nice.

also scoped out some sweet LIC locations to shoot for when i get my camera back.

Riding an imperial half century tomorrow, a 3/4 century Saturday and a full century on Sunday. That's 225 miles in the span of 72 hours! School's out for the summer, so I'm FREE to do whatever I want (within reason, of course)!

My daughter and I went over to Lake Seminole. I parked on top of the Dam near the floodgates and we rode along dam crossing back into GA.

Then we went down below the Dam crossing back into FL. I got my daughter a sweet Schwinn Mesa with 3sp Nexus.

My mother and father owned Lake Seminole Marina in the 70's. I went to high school in tiny Donalsonville. I lived on the lake front for many years in several houses my parents built on the Georgia side. 10 years ago I bought 6 - 6 gallon fuel cans and lined the floor of a 14 foot 40 horse bass boat and left Georgia heading through the locks in Jim Woodriff Dam (pictured) and boated 125 to Apalachicola Bay. I was the only boat in the lock. It took me 8 hours to get the a small marina/hotel on the edge of the bay motoring at full speed all the way. I clammed on the bay and ate seafood for 3 days then returned the way I came with the Doobie Brothers "Black Water" ringing through my head. I've spent my entire life in pursuit of unique experiences and this was one of them. Thanks for taking me home, if only for a minute.

Please tell your daughter that I think you both have cool bikes, BUT hers is the bestest.

My daughter (11) saved up and bought her own bike with her own money about three weeks ago. We are very proud of her.
She already had a bike (town bike) but wanted an MTB and we said she was responsible for buying it, as she got the town bike two Christmases back. If we made her pay, we thought she'd abandon the idea. Noooo, it only made her more determined.

About 12 yrs ago my dad and a couple of friends and I put our 23' boat in at Wingate's Lodge to make the trip down to Apalachicola where we have a small mobile home near Breakaway Marina. We had engine trouble not long after and never made the trip. I grew up in little Cairo and we always went to Lake Talquin between Tallahassee and Quincy. The other day was the 1st time I ever been to Woodruff Dam after passing through the town of Chattahoochee many times. I plan on taking the family on that trip....may do it in the Fall when it's cooler.

Thanks, I will show her your reply. She is only 8 and has heard plenty of my stories how I worked and saved buying my own stuff when I was a kid.

When you say little Cairo are you talking Cairo Georgia? My brother lived there now. Anybody else who might read this will have to understand that most of these places only got dial-up internet 5 or 7 years ago and there are many people here who have never been outside a 100 mile radius. These places are as country as country gets in this part of the world. After your posts I was looking fr pictures of my dads house I took about 5 years ago. His home is gorgeous with the big dock and huge porches. Sometimes I really miss it.
Wingates Lodge. Probably been more record sized Big Mouth Bass and Striper come through there than anyplace else in the world.
Breakaway Marina is where I stayed after my epic journey in the tiny boat.
It's one thing to hap on a biker from, say, Atlanta, and it is another to hap on somebody from the core of swamp country. Nice to have run across you sir. Where is home now?

Yes, Cairo GA, Home of the Mighty Syrupmakers! After 17 years away I'm back living part time. Where everybody knows everybody! During that time away I lived in Panama City Bch, Port St. Joe..Cape San Blas & Apalachicola. Spent about a year out north of Phoenix, AZ in 2004 and loved it. And yea..I've run into to a few people in Apalach that never got out of the county. I got married again 3 yrs ago and her family is from Whigham. A couple yrs ago I got a good deal on a Townhouse in Mexico Beach and I try to stay down there as much as I can.
Nice pic of that Osprey! How long has your brother lived in Cairo?

decided I would take a short ride down at the river bottom bike/walk trail today. For short rides(10 miles or less) I like to use my old 90's Raliegh Dash, go out to get on it to and the darn rear tire is flat and wouldn't hold air. So I decide to use my Trek Fx 7.3 and get ready to go and find its flat, pump it up and it won't hold air. Well i want to go for a ride so I said heck with it and pulled out my girlfriends bike that I just bought her a few months ago, it is "10" Marin San Rafael EZ Step Bike so get on it and head out for my ride. During my ride I wondering what those that saw me thought, here I am at 6'3" riding a bike that is just right for my girlfriend that is 5'6". All in all it was a good ride

Brother has been in Cairo about two years. Not sure how he settled there as his roots are at The Lake but he loves it. I've grown rather attached to Las Vegas myself. LOL.

Nice ride today Keihoku via Kibune. Usually I ride this on my road bike but today I decided to use my Hybrid. My mate got a flat which was a bummer.
