Removing generator hub lights
My Globe came with the generator light system and I was wondering how much of a pain it would be if I wanted to remove it..It looks like some of the wires are located in the downtube.
I'm asking because I want a front basket and it seeks like the two wont be able to co-exist together. I have a QR Wald one on special order. I also saw the cute and functional looking Pass & Stow Racks that have me musing too (obviously not using that and the basket at the same time but maybe even putting the rack on hubby's bike but i like keeping my options open)
I doubt I'll do much if any riding at night to really need the light though its nice knowing its there but it may need to go.
TIA

Pics of your current light setup would help. Anyways, one thing to keep in mind when removing light (or lights, if you have a rear light and wish to remove that as well) is to check if your local laws require reflectors after the lights are removed. These usually mount onto same spots and with same hardware as dynamo lights. But not always, which is why pics would help here.
If wiring is inside the frame tubes, I'd probably just leave it there (I don't bother too much with aesthetics of my bikes, so loose wire ends ziptied to frame would not worry me. YMMV.) It's also easier to reconnect the lights if you ever wish to do that.
Depending on how your lights are powered, removing the rest may be more difficult. If you have a bottle dynamo that connects to the tyre sidewall, you just take it off. This may require removing one brake arm. But if you have a hub dynamo (located in the hub of the front wheel), removing it basically means a new front wheel.
Did I mention pics already?

I would relocate the lamp rather than eliminate it use your imagination, I wouldn't waste the lighting resource. You might have to create a new bracket and splice some extensions on the wire but it should be an easy move. I to would like to see pictures of your set up. Seems like a great excuse to go visit Sixtyfivers shop

If quick release isn't a requirement, the Wald 137 and 139 are a bit shallower than most other baskets and would likely fit above the light.

Sorry, I just read the question again, and this time I caught the keyword "HUB" in thread title. Duh. So much for bottle dynamos and whatnot. Forget that part.
If want to get rid of the dynohub too, you need a new front wheel. Or have your current wheel taken apart and re-laced with a new hub.

Will get pics up tomorrow..too dang hot and tired now...sorry everyone. as an aside. I love that the light is there in the front but it just seems so inconvenient and placed high.
