thanks morgan. i think the pics look sweet only because it's brand new... i'll take pics a year from now when i will have ridden this thing into the ground!!!



(jk - i take exceptionally good care of my stuff and this bike will be looking like new 10 years from now)

what sucks is that the straps on the pouch that i have on the bike covers up the "FX 7.7" model number on the bike... You can only see that it's a TREK - visible in the pics on the previous page... heh... im going to mount this thing somewhere else maybe....

If I were you I'd cover the model number up with some reflective tape anyway. No need to advertise the fact that there's a 7.7 locked up in a bike rack.

^ i dont commute with it or ever lock it up. i go from my place to the bike trails then back to my place. i am literally on the bike the entire time i am out riding then head back to my place... so i dont need a lock nor can i think of any situation where i would ever need to lock it up outside... it stays in my living room for the time i am not riding it. lol.

besides, i'd be too afraid of having the chain scratch it up! lol.

trust me, i was getting an insanely good deal on the '10 7.9, and i seriously considered it, but i learned a few details like a day or two before making my decision and that made me lean more towards the 7.7...

look at posts 60 and 62, as well as some other reasons --

Looking for the fastest hybrid I can buy

i've only put 34-36 miles on my 7.7 thus far but i am extremely happy that i went with it. i dont think i would have gotten anything much more different if i had gotten the 7.9 - aside from having $600 more in it. if the components were significantly better on the 7.9, i certainly would have considered it.

if the 7.9 came with bontrager race lite aero wheels (like the ones that come on this beast - http://www.trekbikes.com/us/en/bikes...istrictcarbon/ ), i would have bought it without a doubt. as a fitness only rider, i didnt see much difference to warrant getting ultegra components over 105s. wheels are the most expensive bike upgrade (besides getting a new frame ) so i wanted a bike which had some really nice wheels on it from the factory. i didnt want to sink another $1k into wheels after buying a bike.

i just also find it funny how my $1700 hybrid has the same wheels as the $3200 madone 5.1...

carrying a lock is being prepared- although we all try to relieve ourselves prior to a long ride one
simply cannot account for all situations when an unexpected stop may occur- like when nature
comes calling (or should i say roaring) after eating a large plate of spicy mexican food the night before. trust me, i've been there. you either lock your bike and run for the nearest bathroom or you fill your bibs!

I ride a 7700 FX I'm still satisfied with. I've always lusted over the 7.9

Ah, I ran into those north winds this past Monday! Going south on the Greenway I was flying, going back north was quite the slog at times. Pretty sure right down by the river I was getting hit with at least 12 knots... judging by the pennants on the boats moored along the stretch around the boat basin.

fxjohn - I have always had a lust for the 7.9 too, and that's what i originally intended on buying but, as those reasons in my other post show, you get much more with the 7.7 than the 7.9 and at a better price.

needless to say, i'll be keeping the 7.7 for a really long time. the next time im buying a bike, it'll be a 30-speed belt driven fx.......... LOL!

Ah, saddle. I got an Avenir Comfy, which is fabulous to sit on. I do have some issues though... yes I've played with fore and aft and the angle. It has a fairly fat noise and when I peddle hard, I tend to scoot forward to the point where I'm riding on the nose more than the rear. Think it's a conmbination of the peddling and not being very upright.

I do the Greenway north and south (from the 103rd st. entrace to RSP) during the week/daytime.

Right now I have a tad of 7.3 fx lust...

My Trex 7.5 FX

Just bought a 7.5 FX. I had also recently bought a Trek Navigator 3.0 for the local bike path. I used the 7.5 FX to commute to word every day, eight miles each way. I took out two day ago for a 38 mile round trip on the highway with a friend who has a Fuji 1.0. After a the first 10 miles the shifting become hard to stay in the correct gear. After I returned I took it to my local bike shop where he proceeded to readjust the cables. The technician said that is due to the cable stretching after initial use. Everything is fine now.
shOOk, did you buy the Speed Trap? I bough my bikes from Tom Walters of Walters Bikes, in Shop Bottom NJ who is my brother's brother-in-law. it's not bad to travel fifty miles for the "Family Discount."

We didn't know how to get the dummy "Speed Trap Sensor" off of the forks. I see from you photos that the cap is missing from the Allen head screw. With the cap on we didn't see the screw so we just pried the the dummy out breaking off the nut plate that screw is threaded into. What dopes are we. No harm was done, I epoxy the nut plate back into the fork and the sensor dummy is replaced with the real thing. Waiting on the "digital" display for complete the installation.

I was impressed with the performance of the 7.5 FX after riding a low gear comfort bike on a bike path the FX really moves. I did find that on the vertical post on the frame where the seat tube is installed that someone had touch up the paint. Found this while waxing the frame. Being that the bike is black it's not noticeable. I just thought that the great reputation on quality that Trek has that something like this wouldn't get out the door.
I have installed a Topeka rear rack to carry my lunch box to work. The ease of removal and installation of this rack is a must get item if you need to carrying item with you. I don't use the rack when I do long distance road work.
I see on you photos that you have a kick stand. We couldn't installed on in the traditional location. Ended up install a Bontrager kick stand on the rear frame. It's fairly light being made of aluminum.

Over all I like the bike. Had to get used to the stiffness by feeling every pebble in the road with tires pumped up to 110 psi. My Navigator is a soft ride with all the absorbers. But all the comforts are extra weight.

110, really? I've been experimenting with various inflation pressures... but I thought 700 x 32c tires generally had 50-80 or so as the recommended range. What was the range on the 7.5 and why do you go so seemingly high?

The sidewall of the Bontrager Race Lite Hard Case that comes with the 7.5 is 110. I inflate these tires to 110 without any problem.

Ah, one learns something every day. 110 sound more like thin road bikes tires, not hybrid ones. My 700 x 38cs are rated 50-75 and some are telling me to over-inflate to 90 and up...

Then the bike simply gets to visit the john! Maybe you could somehow hang it on that hook on the stall door.

I love your bike! the red tires really compliment the black. i saw this model in person at my LBS and it was gorgeous!
