MorganRider,

The tires in your pics look like the Race Lite 32's. Did they come stock on your bike or did you swap them out for the 28's?

I just got a 7.6FX and was thinking about puting 32's on. The 28's seem too stiff for urban street riding on crapy roads, sikewalks, and brick pavers. Should have asked to sawp them at the LBS. If I were just riding on rail trails all the time I think they would be fine, but I cant make use of their speed advantage with all the traffic in this town, or at least im too scared to. Ive even thought about puting on 35's but I think that might be too big for 15mm rims. I like your stem upgrade as well.

How do you think a 7.6 or 7.7fx would fare on packed limestone trails?

Today I purchased The 2010 Trek 7.7 Fx. My LBS is having it shipped in from Trek HQ and I should have it by this coming Thursday, June 17. After reading this entire thread in one sitting I feel good (Perhaps better) with my decision as I really had my heart set on the carbon 7.9 Fx model. I decided to go with the 7.7 instead of the 7.9 because we were purchasing two bikes today and by me dropping down to a lower model and saving the $600 it allowed my wife to get a better bike. She got the 7.5 Fx in the stealthy black and red. I'm really going to be curious to feel first hand the differences in the 7.5 and the 7.7 since I'll have them side by side at any given moment. I still would like to hear if anyone regrets not getting the 7.9 and instead opted for the 7.7fx

TBB, that should spotlight the different feel with and without the rear damper on the 7.7...

Things that I have noticed about my 2010, 7.7fx over my wife's 7.5 fx are subtle. The shifting from the Shimano 105 is ultra-smooth. The biker is lighter, the rims and tires are thinner and are much faster and the brakes are of a better caliber. There is more carbon and the bike is smoother over bumps due to the damper on the back. Despite what these roadies are saying about these bikes not being able to hang, I AM ABLE to hang when I am on the bike path.

Bought a 2010 FX 7.7 Been a very long time since I rode a bike (15 yrs) Been doing a lot of research before I bought the FX 7.7 - I know it's an expensive ride to buy as my first bike, but damn... when I saw this bike at the bike shop... I was like... I want it (when I like something, I get it... bad habit)

Since i'm a newbie... I need some help.

1. Want a comfy seat but still look sleak with this bike. I've read from here that the Fly Tri Gel Saddle by Terry is nice.
2. I want to get a nice computer. Probably a wireless one since this bike has a slot for it. Cateye? which model?
3. Shoes/Pedals? I've never rode with clipless pedals before; as a first time user, is it hard? I think I want a combo pedal, because, sometimes I'll ride in areas with a lot of stop signs and lights, so I'd like to stay with a platform for that. But I want the ability to clip in when I can get out on the open road, or paved trails. Any suggestions? Not afraid to pay for quality.
4. 2 bottle cages. I bought the Bontrager Race Lite Cage for my down tube. I want another cage for my seat tube. From what I can tell, I don't think the Bontrager Race Lite Cage will fit on the seat tube with a cage on the down tube. My bike is 22.5 frame. Has anyone tried using 2 bike cages on this bike? What fits?

Any other accessories I need?
Please help out a newbie Love how this bike looks!

What do people think of the new 2011 7.7fx. I think the 2010 model looked nicer with its white finish. Specs wise they seem pretty much identical except that the new model has an isozone thing in the handlebars and the front derailleur is a slightly newer version. Price wise I would expect the 2011 model to be a little bit more expensive as that seems to be the way it always works?

The differences are so minimal, I don't feel any pain for not having waited for this model. And as you pointed out, the color change IMHO is substandard compared to the pearl white one. The 2010 is going to be the Classic.

Congratulations. Nice bike for sure. Your post is several months old but I'll chime in anyway.

Don't have any experience with that saddle. But saddles are a very individual thing as it depends on ones own "sit bones". That being said I like the WTB Pure V as it has those qualities that you mention, at least in my case.

I undersatnd that the Cateye models are very good. But I just buy cheap ones at Walmart for $10 or so. I have found that they work pretty good too.

Try some out on someone else's bike if you can before shelling out the cash. Clipless pedals are way over rated for recreational riding. They can cause knee problems if you are not careful. Personally, I do not like them on a hybrid. For that matter, I don't really like them on any of my bikes. I would rather use loosely fitted toe clips. But again, everyone is different.

They make seat post bottle clamps. But be careful with clamping anything in a weight bearing fashion to a carbon fibre seat post. Although I think you would be OK I would err on the side of safety side and not do it. You could just buy a bottle belt. They hold a couple of bottles and also have compartments for wallets, Cliff bars, cell phones, etc.

Get some bike shorts or a padded liner. If you don't like the looks of the form fitting Lycra (I don't) then stick with the liner or get one of the baggy shorts with built in liner. These make a big difference to your comfort level and can even make a bad seat feel tolerable. Also, cycling gloves help with hand comfort. And don't forget a helmet above everything else.

I learned the hard way that gloves are more than comfort, I took a nasty spill (10 stitches to my elbow which had multiple flaps of skin dangling) because it was a way humid day and I think one hand slipped off the bars, I probably inadvertently pulled back a bit on the other just enough to make the bike and me go down.

As for the helmet, I did NOT have any great impact on my head... but it did hit the pavement for a split second.

Someone asked "How much does a Trek 7.7 Weigh?" I could not find an answer to that. Anyway, about how much does a 7.7 weigh?

Hey guys, i got a 2011 FX 7.7
So far, i'm in love with this bike. It's fasts, shifts very smoothly and should keep me pretty happy for the next couple of years =)
ACtually, i'm not in love with the saddle. It's not bad on shorter rides (10-20miles), but applies unwanted pressure on 25 mile + rides.
I purchased bibs yesterday and tested them on a 40 mile route. It was my longest distances up to date, and although it was certainly more tolerable, it still hurt after 30 miles or so.
I will be posting pictures soon!!

I emailed Trek about the size on the Trek 7.7. They don´t make it in 25", its an error on their page.

the 7.5 looks really nice is person. i decided that im going to accent the white with another color - i duno what yet. i've seen some blue tires that would look nice on it.....

as for the fit - i am so glad i went with the 22.5 over the 20". on my 20" 7.2, it felt like the bars were too close to me and, as a result, i sorta hunched my back as i rode... this one feels a lot more comfortable when im on the saddle.

if anyone else is between sizes, obviously try out both sizes and pay close attention to your back and how straight or hunched over you are. i mean, it was comfortable to a degree to ride the 20" but the bigger size is a better fit for me.
Just curious. You went with the 22,5"....how tall are you?

My 2010 Trek 7.7 is 22.5" and I am 6'1" . Because of the longer top tube, it's more comfortable for me to ride than the 20". My previous bike - a 2009 7.2 FX - was a 20" and I would hunch over as I ride because the top tube was shorter.

just an update - i had my 2010 fx 7.7 for 1 year but barely put any mileage on it...

so i sold that bike and just ordered a 2011 trek fx 7.3 in white..... it almost looks like the 7.7 i had

if this one sits in my living room without being used, i wont feel so bad... ps i got the bike at about a 20% discount from the dealer i got my 7.7 from.

pictures will be posted once it arrives next week. i cant wait!!

Maybe I'm missing something here ... but this doesn't make sense, at least to me. Unless you got almost what you paid for the 7.7 this maneuver hardly seems rational considering the difference in the quality level between the two bikes. But the 7.3 is a nice bike nonetheless. Enjoy.

i got about $500 less than what i paid for it - which was good enough for me. half of what i got goes to my new bike, the rest goes to tuition which im paying at the end of jan

i felt awful looking at such a high end bike just sitting in my living room. i barely rode it and it was a waste just sitting there. that's why i decided to sell after over a year of having it.

im also a tinkerer at heart and i barely touched anything on the 7.7... the 7.3 however, im going to be putzing around with it without feeling guilty. l0l

my lbs was actually giving me a 2011 fx 7.1 they had in stock - color blue - for $400 cash, no taxes. i thought that was a great deal but i dig the white from my old 7.7, so i paid the extra $140 or so for the 7.3 . it's a great shop, excellent deals and im going to be going back there in the future for anything else i decide to buy.

Riding bikes is hard work. You have the right idea, sh00k! Get the cheapest one you can afford and put it in your living space so guests will think you ride.

Solution= use it and you won't feel bad

Sold 7.7 for $500 loss, purchased 7.3 for $550 = $1050, that is pretty close to the purchase price of the 7.7?

i'm surprised you barely rode your 7.7- you seemed excited when you purchased it
my guess is you probably won't ride the 7.3 either- just curious, how many miles did you put on the 7.7?

If you want to increase speed the cadence may be of help. You would have to keep track of your progress easier in my opinion along with the MPH. Another thing is on level road do 30 second and 60 second sprints. Increase them as time goes. You will find with time you will speed up.

Lame post, especially since you were the one who originated, designated and masturbated over this thread for the past year as the 7.7 being the ultimate bike... and now you're bragging about the purchase of your 7.3fx. Go home. I say that politely of course.
