    Looking for a 2009 Trek FX 7.9

Can anyone lead me to a state of Washington Trek dealer who has a 2009 Trek FX 7.9 on the floor in a 17.5 size?

    Go to the Trek website:

    http://www.trekbikes.com/us/en/

And click on Find A Dealer in the upper right-hand area of your screen. Any of these dealers that Trek listed can get you the bike to test ride - but some will not and try to steer you to buy a different bicycle they have in stock, or on the floor. If so - find another dealer or call Trek directly.

^ Will dealers actually order it so you can just test ride, or would you have to put a deposit and then purchase it?

^ you have to put the deposit down and purchase it. some really large dealers will order one for their showroomfloors, others will not.

the highest trek model i've seen on the floor - out of all the dealers i visited during my search - was a 7.6 .

Tome - have you considered the 7.7?
    2009 Trek FX 7.2 (Blue) -- SOLD!
    2010 Trek FX 7.7 (White) -- SOLD!
2011 Trek FX 7.3 (White) -- Haven't sold it yet! haha

    Not simple

I wish it was that simple! A lot of the dealers don't list what they've got in stock and most don't have a website. You have to get on the phone and call about 25 dealers to see what they've got. Good thing I don't own Trek 'cause if I did, a website would be a requirement for establishing a dealership as well as an up to date list of what's in stock on the website.

Call a TREK concept or factory store, they should be able to locate something for you.
sh00k has a good suggestion, the 7.7 is a great bike costing far less and no worries about the abrupt catastrohic fractures you can get with a carbon frame. Not to mention the fact TREK will not warranty that frame.

    Trek FX 7.9

I didn't know that Trek didn't warranty the 7.9. As far as I know they warrantee all the Madrones with their carbon fiber frames.
Bicycle West says they'll get me a 7.9 if I want. I'm waiting to hear from the Trek corporate Customer Service about 7.9 availability in their warehouse.
Gregg's Sales Manager is out of town till Monday. I'm waiting for an answer from him. My local dealer is SLOW and I'm not going there as much as I'd like to.
Carbon Fiber's breakability is way overstated and misunderstood. Lightness isn't the only virtue of carbon fiber, strength is about even with lightness thus most road race bikes are carbon fiber as are F-1 cars and jet fighters.

    Trek FX 7.9

Shook, don't get me wrong! I love the pics of your 7.7. It's a great looking bike and component wise it's better than my Coda Comp and white, really pretty!!
I just figure that if I'm getting into a $1700 bike I might as well spring for a few bucks more and get the carbon fiber! I rode a Kessler carbon bike a couple of days ago and it's unbelieveable!!
    The reason I'm after a 2009 is because component wise it's a little better off than the 2010 and I'll save a couple of hundred bucks. I think if I cant/don't get a 2009 7.9 I'll likely go for a 2010 7.7.

    Fx 7.9

Panther, I know that the dealers have limited funds, for the most part, so they won't do much in the way of bringing in a bike just so I can check it out.
I wish I could see a 7.9, either a picture big enough to see the details or, of course, the real item.
Shooks's pics of his 7.7 have sold me on that as the possible answer but after riding the Kestrel in carbon fiber the other day I'm really yearning for carbon fiber.
If I lived in NYC like Shook or in Seattle I'd be hitting the dealers tomorrow but I live halfway between Seattle and Spokane in the middle of the Washington boonies so . . .

trek warranties their aluminum and steel frames for life. I think 5 year limited on carbon fiber. You pay out the butt for it, then they don't wanna warranty it? no thanks. Not to mention made in china anyways, at least aluminum you can see if the welds are no good...

The only carbon fiber on any of my bikes is a headset spacer on my mtb. It looks cool. That was the only reason I bought it

it might be tough finding a 7.9 on the floor-most people would buy a drop bar bike if they are spending that kind of money- including myself

I bit the bullet and drove the three hours it took to get to Seattle to Gregg's Green Lake. Believe it or not they had a 2009 FX 7.9 in the shop. After much discussion between myself and two of the shop techs and a test ride, I decided to go with the 7.9. It's not as shiny as the 7.9 that a guy on this website pointed me to but it's good looking. It rides unbelieveably well and definitely is faster than my Jamis Coda Comp which is now for sale. I had just put $300 worth of carbon fiber on the Jamis so I took it all off my Jamis and put it on my wife's 7.5 so now her bike is almost a pound lighter.
    The 7.9 weighs 21 pounds.
    I'm a happy camper (biker).
