Felt Speed 50 vs. Specialized Vita
What do you think about these two bikes? My daughter does mostly tooling around town on surface streets, e.g., back and forth to camp or school, as well as some riding on trails. The Felt is a 2009 model which we can get at a pretty steep discount making it about the same price as Vita. What can you tell me about the quality of these two bikes?

Both good companies. Don't know which Vita you are looking at, but get one with either steel fork or carbon. Looks like one model has alloy (assuming they mean aluminum) fork, and I would avoid that. It transmits the most road vibration to the bars.
Felt is grip shift, where the vita's are all trigger shift. Have her ride both and see what she likes. With grip shifts, some people swear by them, some swear at them. That looks like the big decider.
If she likes to be with the popular crowd, go Specialized. If she likes to be less main stream, go Felt. The bike shop I use carries both brands and they are both excellent quality manufacturers. You wouldn't go wrong with either.

Ha, you're right. The specs say the Felt is grip shift, but actually the bike we saw had triggers, so I guess we're really looking at very similar bikes. Thanks for your reply.
