    shimano bc-m416 disc brakes

i am thinking about getting the bianchi camaleonte 2 with disc brakes. the brakes are alivio mechanical bc-m416. i am a never ever with this kind of brake on a bicycle, so i am curious if this shimano disc brake is as good or better than the competitions disc brakes.

I have a pair of Avid BB7s' for a year on one bike.
Just got the Shimano disc on a new bike. Haven't put many miles on them yet.
They sure seem like a solid, easy to maintain brake unit.

For stopping they should work just fine. Being Shimano, they won't be tool-free like Avids, but won't be that bad. You'll need to use an allen key to adjust the pads, and when replacing them you'll have to pull a bolt and finagle a pad/spring sandwich. Also, only the inner pad is adjustable,so you'll have to play with cable tension to set the outer pad. Basically, they're lower end models so they'll take a little more effort than the nice ones, but if you're mechanically inclined it won't be a big deal. My daily commuter has Shimano 495's and I've never been interested in upgrading to Avid BB7's.
