Hey bud.. saw the pic of your bike.. looks good..
And yea, my gears were a little screwy out of the box, I had the LBS take a look at it all, and give a once over, and its a different bike.. also went for 60 to 90 psi. I installed my computer, and took it for a very breif spin.. Im VERY happy for what I paid for it.
I might take it out for a 20 mile ride in the morning.

It's very likely, that Schwinn Tourist, is a Giant, in disguise. I'm reasonably certain that it was manufactured by Giant.

Ok, I rode 10 miles this morning, and I was impressed. Very smooth, and very quick. The bike shop tune up made a huge difference. The seat was fine too, I had some worries about it too, but it was fine.
The cateye micro wireless was great as well.
Only thing im going to change is the pedals, I could feel them flex when I was standing and riding hard... (im also a bigger guy.)
Definitly need to add a bottle rack, and a bag of some sort.
Averaged 15.3 mph and a max of 25.8, passed a few people with way more expensive bikes..
Overall Im happy
And yes, i have heard that giant did manufacture these bikes.

You gonna eat that?
You're not getting the same bike that Giant sells for $500-600 though. Depending on how much and how hard you ride the bike, it may make no difference to you, but when you get to the point of repair you may find that a lot of the Tourist parts are simply throw-aways that a bike shop will replace with better quality stuff.
I bought my commuter bike, a Nishiki hybrid, a year and a half ago, but it still had the original Oshmann's Sporting Goods price tags on it from 1994. It is probably comparable to a better x-mart bike like the Tourist. Since I've had it, I've replaced the wheels, the brake pads, the tires, seat, and the cranks were replaced by Shimano under an old recall. The derailleurs are hanging in there, but the design details show them to be lower-end stuff too (rivets where better gear would have screws, etc.) Still, the basic frame is worth upgrading and the bike is serving me well. I paid $100 for it in 2008 and I've probably added another $300 in part upgrades, although not all at one time. I think anyone buying a Tourist can expect something similar. It's a good bike to start out, but over time you'll find that some stuff just wears out and needs to be replaced with better stuff.
The Giant probably comes with those upgraded components out of the box.
