Need opinions on clipless/flat combo pedals
I have a Trek 7.5fx and I'm looking to get new pedals. I have a pair of Shimano MT-31 shoes that I've been using just for the support of the stiff soles. The original pedals that came with the bike a digging a groove into my sole. I want a combo pedal, because, unfortunately most of my riding is done within 10-15 miles of my house, and it's all stop signs and lights every half mile (or more!) so I'd like to stay with a platform for that, but have the ability to clip in when I can get out on the open road, or paved trails, I plan to do a 63 mile, and 100 mile ride this year as well.
I'd like the boost that clipless give but I don't want to have that as my only option or switch pedals all of the time.
I started looking at the Shimano m324's but I've been looking online and I've found the Wellgo C002 which are virtually the same (with out the "teeth" along the edge, and rubber platforms on the plain side), or the Wellgo WAM-d10 which are like a mountain bike platform with the clip on one side. The C002 are supposed to have 4 degree float, but I'm not sure about the d10's. I think I should have the float because I have one knee that acts up if I push it too hard. I'm on a limited budget, and the Wellgo's are half the price of the Shimano's.
My head is spinning trying to figure out what I should get, and which online vendor I should trust (the best price on the Wellgos is from an ebay vendor named abaxo.
Can anybody help me make any sense of this?

I have the M324s and really like them.
I also have the A530s ("touring pedals"...whatever that means, but also with the binding on one side and platform on the other).
You should be able to get good deals on used pedals on Craigslist...I see the M324's from time to time for $20 or less.

Thanks, I figured that the Shimano's would be good. Does anyone have experience with the Wellgo WAM-D10 pedals? Do they have float as well.

I have the 324's on my Giant Rapid---I use it to commute and to ride for fitness. I like the idea that, if I have a short ride to the hardware store around the corner, I do not have to put on bike shoes and I can ride in some athletic shoes. I don't know about the Wellgo's---Shimano does great for me.

I tried out dual sided for a while and the problem that I had with the C002s is that the Clipless side always seem to be down so I'd need to always flip them over in order to use them.

I started out with Performance' house brand, which are the Wellgo, and found them lacking in float, and smoothness. They creaked, too.
I switched to the Shimano PDM324s, and have been happy with them for several thousand miles. (Performance took the other pedals back - kudos to their guarantee)

I have a pair of the Performance brand campus pedals. Like you, I thought they'd be good for when I just want to jump on and go, but I found that I never ride without my shoes.......ever, so I switched them for a regular clipless pedal. I just don't feel comfortable on open platform pedals anymore. I don't mind unclipping for stopsigns and lights. I'd have to put my foot down regardless and clipping in and out doesn't take THAT much longer than just stepping on.
