Help to choose between two hybrid.
Hi,
firstly thanks for your time. In short, I need a bike, and I discovered how expensive they are! I have been attracted to a road one, but since I wouldn't use it as much, I thought that an Hybrid would work. I know that many think that bikes d. is a bad place to buy, but I thought I would give it a try.
I'm undecided between
Motobecane Cafe Sprint at 550

Windsor Stratford at 350

The second one attracts me because it's cheaper, and since I wouldn't make and heavy use of it I thought it could be ok.
Do you have any suggestions? Are the 200$ worth the former?

I have no idea why you would buy from bikes direct in this case. I have nothing against the company, but at the prices listed you can get a bike fully assembled and setup just for you. There are five Trek hybrid bikes and one Specialized hybrid that have a list price under the $550 Motobecane.
The bikes I am referring to are:
Trek 7000, 7100, 7200, 7.1 FX, and 7.2 FX
Specialized Sirrus
I will say this about bikes direct: They compare the Motobecane bike to a Trek 1.2 or SOHO, but neither of those bikes are comparable to the Motobecane because they not hybrids, nor are they equipped like hybrids. So were you to actually compare the Moto to the Treks, the Moto would lose out.
Secondly, here is the blurb on the back of the Trek price sheet I got recently, I am sure it is fairly typical of most local bike shops:
PLEASE NOTE THE FOLLOWING VALUES:
We offer an extended wrranty on all our bicycles at no charge.
Full service for the whole family, year round, and feel free to inspect the service department.

If you really want to save money, watch Craigslist for a while. Bikes depreaciate rather quickly. I got my GF an 09 Raliegh Rt 4.0 for $300 from a woman that didn't like it. It was only riden 4 times and looks like brand new. Still had the nubs on the tires. That bike sells new for $450 plus tax. Got my 05 Cypress LX with the disc brakes for $160. I did have to replace the frt derailer and chain but it sold new for $500.

Comparing the motobecane cafe sprint to a typical hybrid like a trek 7.2 fx is like comparing apples and oranges.
Maybe you didn't realy check the specifics of the motobecane, but it has a 12-26 9-speed cassette, a 52 teeth crank and a carbon fork.
Those parts will make it a lot more racy than any low-end trek fx like the 7.2.
To the OP: it all depends on what YOU like.
Do you like to ride at high speeds for long distances or are you a basic commuter doing an average of 12 mph?
We cannot answer these questions for you, but the motobecane does seem like a nice speedy hybrid to me, especially for that price.

Also check Performance Bicycle, they have some killer deals from time to time --- and the 11s will be out soon, which may drop the prices on the 10s/

Thanks, you're being helpful. And, what do you think of the (road) trek 1.1 ?
I saw it, and I fell in love. For a price similar to the hybrid motobecane above, or other trek that I saw in the local shop, it seemed a good one. It's at 600, where on the trek site they suggest it at 660.
