    Comfortable saddle...

    I have a Hybrid/Cruiser style bike. It looks more like a hybrid though, and has a very upright seating position. I'm experiencing a lot of numbness in my private area after just a few miles. The upright position puts more weight on that area, and I"m wondering if that is more common with this type of bike? It almost seems to me that no saddle will really help. Does anyone else know of a decent saddle?

    Lots of people are comfortable on upright bikes. You will need a more than usually well-padded saddle though. Plus saddle fit is particular to the individual.

    But if by "private parts" you mean "your special man bits" then you might want to try one of the saddles aimed at this area*. The cheapest I've seen - and possibly the one with the best evidence for results - is the Rido 2:

    A saddle is very specific and personal.
    You haven't disclosed any personal information, so how do you expect us to help you?
    You could weigh 100lbs or 250 lbs ... your "private area" or "balls", as I like to more simply call them, may be tiny or huge, as may be the rest of your behind.
    As meanwhile has stated, they do make special saddles for about everything, so maybe it would be best for you to contact your LBS about this.
    You may also be helped by changing the position of the saddle by heightening it or tilting it a bit more forward, to have more pressure on your behind and less on your balls.

    Barring some physical or anatomical issue, there's a lot to be said for proper positioning, both of the rider and of the seat. Is most of your weight resting on bones in your pelvis, or soft tissue? Once I figured out the right position on my hybrid commuter, riding got a lot more comfortable. I tend to lean forward a little more than some people, though.

    Check out this great Sheldon Brown article on adjusting your seat. It gives some pretty good tips for determining the right height, angle, and front/back position for your saddle.

    As I was bumping up my mileage while training for a century I ran into that problem, with my thing going numb. I researched it and found out that on some people participating in long distance events, they could suffer from erectile dysfunction for up to a week after the event.

    Needless to say this is not an option. Fortunately I ride the most comfortable type of saddle in the planet, a leather brooks B17. Brooks has a model of the B17 called the imperial that has a hole in the middle. Already having a B17 I just made a similar hole on mine and the numbness is gone.

    Google up 'brooks b17 imperial'.
