First "Century" - And on a hybrid too!

So today I did my first century, the 185km route of the Tour de l'Alberta, which was a lie, because it was really actually 192km (119miles) in total. The longest I have ridden before this was 95km, so this was quite a challenge. But on my Trek Valencia, complete with disc brakes, flat bars with regular barrends, four water bottles, and rack and fenders, I managed to finish in just under 8 hours of ride time. Never have I been so sore, nor have I felt this much sense of accomplishment. I will be back for another century when I can someday. I now know why cyclists love them.

Congratulations, I did 130 miles in my FX-2 at the end of June. It was 90 degrees fahrenheit that day & total sun. I too will do it again but it did kick my ass

Congratulations.
A lot of roadies say you can't, or shouldn't, do long rides on a hybrid, but a lot of us have no problem with it.
I did my first century last September (the NY Century) on my Trek 750. I'm planning to ride it again this year, but if I don't feel like doing the full 100, I won't.

That calculates to about 15 miles per hour for such a long distance! Nice one!

Thanks all. The roughest strecth was the 45 kilometres before the last 10km smooth flat stretch, all uphill, against the wind, and hardly any shoulder. Luckily I ran into a girl struggling as much as me to finish, she was tempted to quit and so was I, but we rode together and pushed eachother on to the finish line.

That's a quote from the young lady attending the next to the last rest stop on the inaugural Queen City Century. I thought it was so good I stole it.
