best bike lock for a hybrid (in an urban area)?

i know that with beefier tires than roadbikes, the "mini" version of U locks may not be the best bet, so i was hoping some of you guys (particularly those that bike in an urban area like downtown) might have some recommendations. thanks!

I use the Magnum 3000: https://www.magnum.ws/Magnum/3000.htm. It's very tough, has a lighted key, and survived winter commuting needing nothing more than a dab of chain oil in the locking mechanism.

The mini U locks offer the greatest security. Larger shackles are easier to break. If I was leaving my bike out all day, I'd secure my frame to a solid stanchion, and loop a sturdy cable through the wheels.

Never leave your bike outside over night.

If you have a quick release seatpost, you might want to take saddle and post with you, but put something over the opening, in case it rains.

Locking skewers will add security to quick release wheels and seatposts.

Good advice as usual from qsm.

The key to stopping any u-lock shackle from being broken is to fill the shackle so a bottlejack can't be inserted. Otherwise the thief can break the lock almost at once with a bottle jack, or a bit more slowly with a prying attack. See the "Fill that lock" section of https://quickrelease.tv/?p=327.

In fact https://quickrelease.tv/?p=327 is THE page for bike security advice.

All good advice. If the bike has more unusually valuable equipment and you're in a high theft area you can also use the trick of putting small steel ball bearings in the sockets of the allen bolts that hold said equipment on to the frame - you use a glue melt gun. The bearings can be removed with a strong magnet and a sharp object, but it takes time. There are very few if any hybrids with this level of tech though - it's more for people crazy enough to lock a road bike with £350 SRAM shifters on the street.

Forget cables completely. Chains work can really well but they have to have very large cross section links and a good padlock, making them much heavier than a u-lock. They're only a good solution if you're a NYC messenger and need to able to lock up fast:
