Can I play too?
I just purchased a trek Utopia last week and have found I am enchanted with the freedom of a hybrid. I have had a road bike for years that I have used sporadically. I decided to start riding more consistently for fitness this year but wanted a bike I would be comfortable taking on light trails. The utopia is awesome for that. I did 20 miles on crushed gravel my first ride out on her and it was a dream, although I need to replace the stock saddle.
I plan to do a longer road ride with a group this coming weekend on my road bike but I am so tempted to take the utopia because she is so much fun. I just feel like I am riding for the joy of riding instead of trying to get from point A to point B is quickly as I can.

Wow, I've wanted to have someones opinion on the Utopia for a little while now and I just got talked out of getting a hybrid and here you go...
Can you tell me more? Is it sluggish at all? that's my main concern, thanks...
I just roda a Jamis Allegro and loved it but wished it handled gravel and bumps on the sidewalk better but it's zippy. Is the Utopia this way? None of my local dealers have it in stock to try out
Thanks and congrats

Oooh nice bike. This is one I've never seen before. Let us know about the longer ride if you take it this weekend. I'm looking to get something new - my excuse is I can't do my grip shifters anymore.

Well, it is zippier then my old GT mountain bike with 26" wheels, even with slicks on it. I test road a trek 7.5fx when I bought it and while it might have been faster it was nowhere near as fun. I was floating over speed bumps, pot holes and low curbs when I test road the utopia and pretty much bouncing in an ungraceful way over all those things with the 7.5fx.
It is clearly not a road bike, that wasn't what I was looking for. But it is a well built fun go anywhere kind of bike.
