Hello,

I know this seems like yet another thread asking for help on this subject, but any I recieve would be truly appreciated.

I'm looking to get a Hybrid for around the £350 (I'm English obviously ), and I've narrowed it down to two bikes. A trek 7.1 fx or a Speciallized Sirrus.

One of the things I have to take into consideration is my weight (around 20 stone/280 pounds), hence getting a bike for fitness reasons.

It will mainly be used on cycle paths near where I live.

I really like the look of the Sirrus but concerned that with the thinner wheels it will be less stable/hardy than the FX taking into account the above. Also someone warned me they are less hardy when going slightly of road (gravel tracks etc.)

Problem is I *really* don't like the looks of the FX but love the looks of the Sirrus, but know that's just cosmetic

Any help you can provide on which is the best choice would be really helpful.

G'day mate its possible you can just fit a wider tire to the sirrus I havent seen one in the flesh so cant say for sure.
Also from the type of riding you want to do I would suggest a hybrid that leans more to mountain bike thats fitted with wider tires and that would be a sturdier platform or just go for a proper MTB maybe 29er.
Its hard to give suggestions because cycling is a very personal thing but just take your time to find out whats right for you.

You should be fine with the Sirrus. If most of the paths you ride are paved, I think you'll be happy with the stock 32c tires. I'd be very surprised if you couldn't put a wider tire on it should you so choose. Test ride if possible.
