Dawes Project
Howdy Hybrid lovers. I'm in need of a more aerodynamic bike for long rides in Scotland but I don't have the cash for a Carbon Body Racing Bike. Now my question is has anyone tried to turn a Dawes Mirage into a tourer?
I know it seems a big risk since it's Dawes Entry Level Bike from 06' but I don't want to spend 1k or more on a new bike. The bike is Aluminum Framed with Steel Forks and is quite aerodynamic even though you sit quiet high. It weighs 13.1kg as far as the spec list goes.
I was thinking of changing the gears, front forks, brakes, pedals and seat post. Anyone done this? IS it worth it. I don't mind spending a little bit of cash. I can sell the parts to other Dawes owners who have the same bike. (The bike is well used but in top condition).

By the time you spend all that money you could have bought the bike you really wanted in the first place. Good luck

After looking at the 2010 Dawes catalogue; I would suggest the following:
* drop bars - if yours has linear pull (aka V brakes) you will need to get compatible levers: Cane Creek, Tektro and possibly others offer V brake compatible brake levers.
* you will probably need something like this: https://www.amazon.com/Origin8-Thread...891621&sr=1-56
* you will also need different shifters, and adapting the revo to drop bars is _______
* if you want more than 7 gears in the rear, you'll need a new hub - usually cheaper to get a whole wheel - with a cassette mount.
* which leads to a new rear derailluer
* and a cassette - SRAM are good and reasably priced with a nice selection.
the fork and seat post don't even make the 2nd cut of upgrades......
why change the brakes? If they are V-brakes as shown in the 2010 brochure, keep them - you will not find more effective brakes.
