Thinking of turning my new GT Avalance 2.0 into a hybrid, need advice
I just bought a new 2010 GT Avalanche 2.0 disk. I have only ridden it once because I don't ride mountain bikes much. I am 80% road rider and 15% city and 5% mt. I have a nice older Schwinn Moab that I can use for the few times I actually use a mt bike. I was thinking it was a waste to have a brand new mt bike just sit when I could turn it into a hybrid and ride it in town.
I have a Specialized Sirrus but I don't like it and will sell it as soon as I get something else or make my own hybrid. What I want to know is, are the disk brakes a bad idea for any reason on a hybrid? I have never had them before so I am not familiar with all the inns and outs of them. I wil need some road tires as well. Any suggestions for a thinner and lighter road tire is helpful. Price is not really an issue since good tires are worth the money and that is about all I think I need to do. |
Why do you not like the Sirrus?

The Sirrus is the bike that got me into road riding and I love it for doing that but I have moved on. The frame sucks and the Alex rims are garbage. The components are low end and I am going to sell it off. I have no real need for it anymore. If I want a fast bike for around town, my old Nishiki is far better. I am looking to build a fast bike that is capable and comfortable and a mt bike makes that most sense. |
