Red face successful at our first 50km ride!

I was on a road bike, my wife on her only bike which is a hybrid. I'm posting this here because it's a more significant achievement on her flatbar bike.

We typically do a 15 mile ride on Saturdays. I got back into cycling last year and it was the first time my (now) wife had ever done it. We did some talking and test riding, and she wanted a Cannondale women's Adventure 3 comfort hybrid. She wasn't all that happy with the shifting so I recently upgraded it to full SRAM X9 fairly inexpensively through the magic of eBay.

I have a set of road wheels that came off my dad's 2010 Secteur Apex. I bought two 11-34 cassettes and the original wheels for this bike have a set of 35mm 'dual sport' tires (Ritchey Speedmax Delta Cross) that she's been riding on street, light trails and MUPs. This was the first long ride for her on the new setup and it worked great.

We felt strong in the early going and skipped the first support station at the 12 mile mark. The second aid station was at the 22 mile mark and my butt needed a quick break so we stopped for 10 min for food and gatoraid.

We averaged 14 mph which is naturally slower than our shorter rides. I would've felt a lot stronger if we had previously ridden this distance. We had a great time with one of my co-workers who convinced us to do this ride and we'll be doing longer distances more and more!

Thanks! I forgot to include some of the event details. This was a charity benefit for Heartspring, a children's hospital. Our team was #3 in donations.

There are several more longer group events this year.. we want to do at least one more!

Thanks, I will let her know. Cannondale doesn't make 'em quite like that... Serfas Women's RX seat, Shimano Deore 170mm cranks with GXP external BB, sram X9 shifters and deraileurs, PG-970 11-34 cassette, Mavic cxp22 rims, Specialized All Condition 25mm tires.

Oh and the bell, lol, can't forget that!

Yes-- our weekly big ride will now be 40-50km and working towards 100km! Next time we will want to go nonstop and faster.

Congrats. The wife and I did 18 miles on Saturday. Her first time out in years, as well as first time on the new bike we bought her Saturday(I was impressed).

that is extremely impressive. I didn't get my wife out for that kind of distance in the first month!

You both have good taste in bikes and that's the first "step-through" Cannondale bike I've seen. They don't seem to be here in Kyoto. Congralulations by the way to your wife. My wife wants to ride around Biwa Lake (here) She has an image of rolling around the lake checking out the scenery, but it's 230 km around. I don't think so.
