Tire Upgrade Suggestions for Trek 7300?

I'm getting ready for new tires for my 2009 Trek 7300. I'm currently running Matrix 750 rims and 700 x 35c Bontrager Invert Hardcase tires. The tires have been bullet proof but I'd like to go to something narrower and lighter while still retaining the ability to ride the occasional smooth hardpacked gravel trails. Can anyone recommend a 28c sized tire that will work with my rims, roll faster on pavement and still put up with occassional pot holes?

    Thanks,
    Spud

You might want to consider a pair of Bontrager Hard Case Race Lite tires. I have a set on my Trek Multitrack. 700 x 35
I run them at 80 psi for both asphalt and stone dust paved trails around here.

I looked at the 700 x 28 c version. Just too much trouble to fix a flat on the trail with the narrow tire. The 35s come off the rims easy and go back on. I have the 35s on since early last year and have not had one flat. (Uh-Oh! Now Tuesday I'll get a flat!) They show little signs of wear after roughly 1,500 miles.

I had tried a pair of the Invert Hard Case tires on my bike but they felt sort of sluggish.

The Hard Case Race Lites have no tread. A strip of raised black rubber in the center of the tire. So far no slippage on asphalt or with leaves on the asphalt. But I did go down last week where there was about an inch of wet river mud on the trail.
