Really really tall chap
I'm 6'7" tall and thinking about getting a hybrid. I have 20 years of a bad back and need an upright (ish) position. Ive narrowed it down (maybe!!!) to a Trek 7500E 2012 disc (25" frame) or a Norco XFR 1 2012 22" frame bike. Both are similar prices and wanted to know: which should I buy?

Agree with 25" suggestion. How often do you plan to ride? Number of miles? Road condition? Commuting? Weather conditions? Your size? Previous experience? Any other goals (fitness, weight loss/control, future events, tours)?
All this will help you choose and folks here to advise. Have fun!

Cool: Commute along roads only a few miles each way/ I live in London: so 4 seasons in one day! Not ridden since I was a kid: 20+ years ago. Just want to save on petrol costs and do a little more fitness stuff. Who knows if the bug bites me, may do a little more for enjoyment!

If the bike fits, I'd choose the 7500e. Looks like a tough, fun bike for the money. I haven't ridden that model, so my opinion is based on specs, not experiences FWIW.

I would suggest the 25" frame as well. I have the 22.5" frame on my Trek 7.3 fx, and I am 6'4. When I got fitted I was basically on the high end for my frame, but still fit well. So I went with that. Unless somehow all your height is in your torso you will not like the 22". I would try and see if maybe you can get a test ride on both ideally.

Im in London England. It's weird, frame sizes seem to be pretty random from what I can gather. The 22" Norco was stood next to a 22" Trek and the Norco was much taller! the guys in the shop are oirdering me both in for a try out tomorrow. Both bikes LOOK pretty cool, but its going to be hard to know which to buy. I imagine everyone has their preferences. I'm not going to be setting any world records for speed or distance, so it probably doesnt matter. Comfort is King!!!

That is true . Doesn't matter what nameplate is on it , if it doesn't feel good to ride .

You may want to check a fit calculator (or two).
I believe Competitive Cyclist's is the favorite around here:

There are others, and different calculators will give different results. The results aren't a definitive guide for what will serve you best, but they should give you a general idea of what to try for.

You may also want to take a look around the Clydesdales/Athena sub-forum. With your height even if you're skinny you'll put added stress on components. The folks over in Clydesdales/Athenas can tell you all about that.

Following a lovely test ride: i went for the Norco. Its weird isnt it: but when you stand the 2 bikes next to each other the geometry is almost identical!
