Still, I'm betting if I had discovered Trek first, in a road bike, I'd be on an FX instead of an Escape today. My Trek road bike is just as great, but in different ways, as my Giant road bike was.
There is only one thing I am positive about. I'm a much better picture taker than I am a bicycler. hHHhahahaa

Another cheap plug though......

Igo...which Escape model do you have? Also, is that the original flat bar or did you change it? Finally, what size tires do you have on? Based on the pics, that definitely is not ideal for a road bike.

It is an Escape 1. Original flat bar with bar ends. 32C tires.
Based on the pics, the bike is in the dirt; this is a hybrid thread!

This is an ideal road bike:

Igo...I know that this is a hybrid thread I guess I was just curious on the tire size...I expected the tires to be wider. Oh and for the record the bike on this pic is different than the one you sent earlier. This one has a drop down bar and it doesn't have the back pack, water bottles or the computer and it is also a different color. Same pole and scenery though.

FWIW- I have a Sirrus and find it to be a really nice bike. I don't think you could go wrong with it.

I looked at the Sirrus and the Sirrus Sport (they are still in the mix). Which Sirrus do you have?

Alright...this is me JJ_Miami...I started this thread...so first I want to thank you all for all your feedback. I actually learned a lot and I think that has added to how long it has taken to make a decision. Along with the limited time that I have to test ride the bikes. Unfortunately, I wasn't able to test ride the Fuji or Marin bikes since they didn't have them in stock. So I will make my decision based on the ones that I tested. However, I still would welcome any final thoughts.

* Trek 7.3 loved how it looks but it was the most uncomfortable seat of all. Also the most expensive of my remaining choices.
* Speciliazed Sirrus and Sport - both felt comfortable...LBS has a 2011 Sirrus for $470..told it's better than 2012 but I didn't see it as far as components
* Giant Escape 1 felt comfortable and great price
* Jamis Allegro Sport felt comfortable...but saw that the Coda was voted 2nd best by Bicycling Mag...but concerned that it is steel.
* Canondale Quick 5 felt comfortable...Quick 4 not available for ride

The good news is that I got the wife to say, don't worry about what it costs, get the one you like. If the 7.3 had felt like the others I would have gotten it by now but I hate to think that I would have to change the seat on the most expensive bike on my list. So right now leaning towards the Jamis Allegro Sport (black), Giant Escape 1 or 2011 Specialized Cirrus (in that order).

Any lasts thoughts???

With most entry and mid level bikes. Most likely you'll have to change the saddle, if you are planing to ride long miles.

I rode the Specialized Sirrus Sport and liked it. The bike shop told me to take the Specialized Crosstrail Sport for a ride to compare. I loved the Crosstrail and ended up buying one. I am 6'5" and 140lbs and fit on the Crosstrail just perfectly. I have only been able to ride 130 miles so far this year (thank you weather) but it's been flawless.

The Crosstrail looks nice but tires were too wide (45). I am looking for more of a road bike (with a flat bar) for speed. thanks

The Specialized Sirrus is a great bike. With semi fat tires, it even rides nice.

As stated before, adjustment will make a huge difference in shifting....

I have the Elite. I have ridden it for about a year and find it to be a great all around bike.

The Trek 7.3 FX is a great bike IMO. Last year I was in the market for a second bike (to add to my road bike) and did a lot of research as you did. I narrowed my selection down to the 7.3 FX and the Cannondale CX-3. It was a REAL difficult choice, as both bikes road nice, felt nice..... It eventually came down to the LBS that I felt more comfortable with, in this case, it was the Cannondale dealer. I made my first purchase from this dealer a few years ago and have had GREAT service with them ever since, so when it came time to purchase a second bike, I chose them again.

Good luck with your new ride!!!!! You have made a great choice.

The CX-3 is a great bike, but it's more of a dual sport bike. The 7.3 FX is more of a flat bar road bike and is better on pavement/streets as the OP is intended to use it for.
