Hip Hurting
Out of the blue my hip has started hurting. I ride about 50-75 miles a week. I started riding 4 years ago but this just started this week. Anybody have any suggestions? Could it be a saddle out of position? Thanks.

The very first thing I would do is take a week off from riding and I know how hard that is to do. Your body is telling you something....that's part of the reason there is such a thing as pain. If a week off doesn't make it go away, I'd see a doctor. Hip issues can very easily be related to back issues because it all ties together from the muscles perspective.
DO go see a doctor if it doesn't go away. If you haven't ever had serious back or hip pain, don't EVER take any chances on that. Ask me how I know.... If you've been riding that distance consistently for a long time, I doubt if it's the saddle all of the sudden. My 3 cents.

I'd have to agree with Roadfrog...best to give it a rest. What area are you getting pain? If it is tender on the side by the boney area you may have developed bursitis there. If so, be sure to ice it down frequently. But do be sure to see a doc if it continues.

Yea, I canceled my 25 miler with my biking buddy for this AM . I am going to try a week off. I think it might be bursitis as it hurts even just sitting in the car sometimes. I am trying some hamstring stretches out as well as ibuprofen.

JRV, I had a total hip replacement last year and it is common for us to develope bursitis. I had a good year building up my leg area biking again but did develope bursitis. The bursa sac on side of hip was tender to the touch and the doctor did give me stretching exercises to work with and also icing along with Alieve. After about eight weeks though he and I decided it was time for an injection in the bursa. If after you give it a rest and you still feel you are not improving I suggest going in and making sure what the problem is and find a program with the doctor to start relieving it...I think I waited too long. I am just getting better again with the bursa and able t bike a little further each time. So I guess what I'm saying is don't wait too long. Best of luck!
