My 2013 Trek 7.7 FX Carbon Hybrid Bike

I think the bigger concern is that clamps could crack or crush the thin tubing. I note that Ergon has an LS100 expansion plug designed to reinforce the end of a thin wall handlebar.

Shifting is pretty smooth. I have one particular issue with my 5th and 6th chain ring, but that's probably just an adjustment I need to make. I don't know much about the 7.6. But the Tiagra has been pretty good thus far. Interesting choice to put pannier racks given it's a carbon bike, but it should not be an issue.

Interesting (pannier racks) in what way re carbon bike.I figure if I can afford the top of the range I should get it but if its not going to be compatible then maybe I should come down a model or two. Also does anyone have any feedback on the Specialized Sirrus Limited.

Spud, the biggest issue I would see with pannier racks on the 7.7 (and the Specialized Sirrus Limited) is the lack of eyelets to mount them. I'm using the Topeak rack that mounts on the seatpost on my Limited, but I would not consider it sturdy enough to carry panniers; it's a lightweight rack (rated for 20 lbs if I recall correctly) and best suited for carrying a jacket or some smaller accessories.
Not to hijack the post, but I really enjoy my Sirrus Limited. The frame is from Specialized's Roubaix line, so it's definitely a "flat bar road bike" and handles very quickly. I enjoy it immensely, but I think there are better suited bikes for commuting and city riding. It would be an aggravating bike for loaded touring as well - that's not it's intended purpose. I would surmise the pangpang77 would feel the same way about the Trek 7.7; it's an awesome bike, but there are better choices for what you are suggesting.

Have got an email back from ETrek help saying ok to put panniers on as the 7.7 has rack mounts (bottom), (seat post clamp top?). They only recommend light weight racks(bontrager lightweight) but i have been told that the Tubus Fly rack will do the job.

is there a bridge with a through-hole between the seat stays above the back tire, like where a sidepull brake might mount? thats the traditional place to anchor the top of a rack. that or clamps on either seat stay at about the same height.
edit: oops, just looked at the pics of a 7.7... guess it HAS sidepull/dualpivot brakes. in which case, the mounting bolt for said brake is the classic place you secure the top of a rack. don't think I'd want to put clamps on carbon stays.... and I see the stays are fused into one piece above the brake mount. meh. art for arts sake. too bad they didn't put some screw points on the outside of the two stays just above or below the brake bridge.

Dude, that's my bike!!! Right down to the handlebars! I ordered a 60cm and it came in damaged and there's not another one to be had right now, so I've been waiting for 3 weeks. Argh... It looks like a real beaut.
The handlebars are the Bontrager Satellite Elite Carbon Trekking https://bontrager.com/model/04996 and are easily the best mod I've done to my Mendota. I already have another one here waiting on the 7.7. Picked them both up on eBay for a little over $100 each. I much prefer the horns on the bar to bar ends which I also used to have on the Mendota, but took them off as I didn't use them.
Congrats on a sweet ride.

So just to confirm, these trekking bars would work on any of the FX series? I am thinking of a 7.4 or 7.5 and I think I too would rather the grab bars in the middle instead of bar ends for the occasional aero need. I just wonder if it forces your arms in close to each other and put too much stress on shoulders after a bit?

Trek 7.7 fx
I am considering buying a leftover 2013 fx 7.7 for 1399.00, same bike.
Is it worth it?

I love the looks of the 2013. Not sure if they changed anything other than paint, but if I were you and you could snag the 2013 for 1400, I would have it in a heartbeat! I have a 2014 that I love. But I still think the 2013 is better looking.
