The ultimate hybrid.
 

This wasn't a planned build, I had it in my mind to see how an old Italian steel frame rides, for as little cash as possible, LOL. I found a nice deal on this 58cm 1993 Miele (rhymes with Sheila, made by an Italian-Canadian) Invictus frame (Columbus SL) on CL, and then found an awesome Swiss-made sealed bearing BB with Italian threads, for dirt cheap at our local bike recycling place. Most everything else, I've been accumulating for awhile, and it's been on a few different frames. I'm not sure exactly what made me use a single chainring up front, but a 1x8 setup is refreshingly simple to use, with no trimming needed for weird gear combinations. So it's an 8-speed XTR shifter, RD & cassette, with Dura Ace crank & ring, chain & brake calipers. The Tektro Quartz brake levers had something on them, like road tar maybe, so they were cheap too, even though they were pretty spendy new. The carbon bars were one of my big purchases a few years ago, and cost me a whopping $40, but the carbon seat post was $20, because it's pretty scratchy, by most peoples' standards. This seat is a Univega branded Selle-Italia suede, but I might put on my heavier Cinelli patent leather, if I need more padding. :D I weighed it at exactly 20 pounds before, but I've made several changes since, so it's most likely at 19 pounds now, roughly. BTW, I just rebuilt those pedals yesterday, they're French-made Lyotard Chromees, made from the 1950s through the 1970s, so older than some of you. :D ;)

I see how it is. You're giving me the old "cold shoulder" routine, because I'm new to this particular little sub-forum, hmmm? :lol: I guess either, I've amazed all of you beyond words, with my superb taste and mechanical skilz, OR, you don't want to hurt my feelings, by telling me just how bad it sucks. :lol: ;) It's cool, but please, don't worry about hurting my feelings. I'm an old fart, 51, and I've been ignored by cooler people than you before. :D ;) But really, I'm the only one who has to like it, and I like it just fine (for now), so don't worry about it. ;)

My gosh, give us a chance. Some of us live on the other side of the world and there's a time difference. It's a nice looking ride and you've done a great job bringing it to life.

LOL And some of us are freezing our butts off in this cold weather and dealing with ocassonal power outages!

Thanks guys. :) I guess my inner herd-member feels a little better now, with a little acceptance from the rest of the herd. :lol: ;) I don't trust Carbon Fiber enough to ride a CF frame, I just barely conceded to bars & a seatpost, and STILL have some reservations. And don't get me started on RED. I heard people saying that red = fast, but if that red bike is just a smidge too big, it'll make you SEE red. :p :lol: ;) Stay warm up there, Burton, or at least play some good music to shiver by. :D ;)

From a fellow 51 year old... I like what you've done, Spacemanz. I have typically been a modern bike kind of guy, but projects like this are really getting me interested in the classic frames. Keep up the nice work.

I've got you by 4. I really like the idea of a vintage flat bar bike. I was actually thinking about that myself. One of my many projects.

One of these days I might do this to my 1986 Bianchi Nuovo Alloro. That will really piss off the road bike snobs! :thumb:

This is the kind of frankenstein idea that probably sits in many peoples minds but I wouldn't do it because I don't know where I would use a bike like this. Except maybe as the ultimate wheelie "mono" machine.

Nice idea, mate. Sounds like a lot of time and effort has gone into it, so it'll be interesting to see how it rides. Looks good though.

OK so had a chance to check this out more carefully - (rain yesterday - -15C again today!) and its an interesting combination of old and new goodies - should ride really nice!

Now, out of respect for your latest creation, I'd suggest an alternate pronunciation to the Miele name. The roots are Italian and French - not German - and there's no way it rhymes with Sheila. :notamused: But the literal translation in Italian is 'honey' so if you get it right she'll probably purr right along! :thumb:

Nice setup. Those CF Race Face bars look like a carbon (fiber :lol: ) copy of my black alum Race Face riser bars on my MTB.
