1997 Cannondale Silk Path 500 7-speed

Hello I posted about my bike in the "how much is it worth" forum and they told me to try the hybrid form. I have a 1997 Cannondale Silk Road 7-speed. I was doing a little searching on the web as I was going to add some fenders and start riding to work. While looking I found it referred to as the "rarest hybrid" and some guy was asking more than $5k for one. There were some expired Craigslist ads in the 2-3k range. Anybody know what is up here? I plan on beating the hell out of this thing, so if it worth more than 1k I will sell it and get something that I can spray paint and not perform maintenance on.

5k for old Cannondale?

The bike you have listed is the 500 Silk Path but not the one I have. The one I have has the 7-speed Nexus hub. Even if there were only 50 made would anybody care? I don't know is there is a cult of Cannondale? Back when I was bike obsessed in the mid 80's my circle considered them crap.

I am going to buy some fenders and start riding it to work. I think it will be perfect for my purposes. However if anyone would like to pay 2,3,4 or 5 thousand dollars for the bike just post your interest here. You can pay my travel expenses and I will even deliver it to you anywhere in the world.

LOL on the delivery. There might easily be something to that whole collectible thing, but I seriously doubt that $5k is a reasonable expectation. This thread caught my eye, because I have a '97 Silk "Road" 500, 58cm in Speed Yellow, that came with that RSX group, I think. I almost posted a lot of useless stuff, but notice, mine is a Silk Road, not Silk Path. Silk Roads can only fit a 700c x 28c tire, but the Silk Paths can take big ole fat tires.
