Crankset Question

Is there any advantage from going from Shimano FCM311 Octalink 48/38/28t
to a SLX FC-M660 24/32/42T
nice buy on Jensen
https://www.jensonusa.com/Shimano-SLX...t?SSAID=314743

will it work on Misceo?

Do the math on the ratios,

you can get the low , a 24t by just changing that one chainring, the 28t.

not to sure what your looking to accomplish but that is pure mountain bike gearing, not the best choice for street use. the swap might also require a different front derailleur.

That crankset is for 10spd so the rings won't mesh properly with your 8spd chain. You'll get accelerated wear on the chain and rings, and the shifting could be sloppy to boot.

For a whole lot less money/trouble you can just swap your small ring for a 24t.

Actually thats a 10 speed Dyna Sys crankset and Dyna Sys is only compatible with Dyna Sys - do you're looking at changing your whole drivetrain, and the gear rations STILL wouldn't be ideal for on-road use.

Don't think there's much to do with your current crankset either. As far as I know the chainrings are swaged on that model.

There are def chainring bolts there. As for Dyna-Sys,it's Shimano's latest 'innovation';it's supposed to play better with rear suspension bikes. I haven't read anything that says it can't work with other 10spd MTB bits.

that FCM311 is a riveted triple.

https://techdocs.shimano.com/media/te...9830637963.pdf

no separate sprockets

anyways, your low gear now is 28:32, which is way less than 1:1, suitable for anything this side of tree climbing. why do you want lower gear ratios?

Consider instead a proper Compact MTB triple 44, 32, 22, so you get a respectable low..

on a road oriented hybrid? 22:32 would be an insanely low gear ratio (the maceo has a 11-32 cassette). with a 700x38 tire, you'd be doing like 5MPH when spinning 90 RPM. thats 18 gear-inches.

You need to read more.

And this year the DuraAce lineup has been completely redesigned and THAT drivetrain is also compatible with nothing else.
