Well ill throw my hat in also I guess. Bought a 7.2fx disc today, will be riding it to work for first time tomarrow morning on my short commute. Everythings stock so far have only added a computer, although im skeptical of the seat I will give it a couple weeks. I am 5'8 and bought the 17.5, fits like a glove.

The seats not bad. I did a 47 mile ride today with the stock seat. I have put about 250 miles on it so it's broke in. try it for awhile before you change it. You got a great bike, enjoy!

Im going to give it a fair shake, my only worries is im a little bit of a fat body, and have always had that gigantic gel garbage lid sized seats

Bigger, and softer, does not make them better. I ride a Brooks B17, and love it. Specialized Body Goemetry seats are comfy, as well, for me. Itsall about fit and adjustment.

Test road a Giant Escape City Sunday and going to test ride the 7.2 and 7.3 fx today and go with what I like best. This is a 7.2 thread so why did you guys decide to go with the 7.2 over the 7.3? I know very little about bikes.

The 7.2 fit the bill for me. It does everything I want and I felt no need to spend more. It s a good robust bike and good value for my purposes.

I really liked the 7.3s stock grips, and the components are a grade up. But the 7.2 had everything I needed and the .3 they only had in *bright* red. It sounds ridiculous but couldnt get past its gawdyness. After comfort comes style right?

But Oh my god. I rode it today for the first time and I simply could not be more pleased. It is soo light and agile! I have alot to get used to, the smaller slicker tires dont handle the bumps as good as my old mtb,and it seems to have a wider turn radius. But those are literally the only complaints I can find so far. Even the seat wasnt all that bad, I even found myself passing my house to ride a bit more! If anyone is considering this type of bike at all, if it fits your needs, give it a test ride I think you will be impressed.

For me it was mainly a cost thing. Since I am a novice, I figured I would not notice the difference with the upgraded components of the 7.3 Actually the 7.1 felt pretty nice too, but thought a little extra $$ was worth shelling out for some nicer components. As others have said, I am nervous about the saddle as well, but am going to give it a shot, been reading Sheldon Brown's website for some good tips and found a good article on saddles.

Don't worry about the saddle. Just move it forward and your butt will rest in a nice spot. You may have to nudge it forward or backwards a bit until you find the sweet spot. Good luck.

I test road the 7.2FX today and thought the fit for me was better the Giant city Escape and the ride was good. They won't have the 7.3FX in my size until Friday so I couldn't test ride it yet but at this point I may spend the extra money on fenders ($50) and a rack ($40) instead and get the 7.2FX. It's on sale for $500.00, I don't think it's a great sale but don't think I can find it anywhere cheaper.

Also the Fender/Rack won't effect the performance of the Bike, will it?

I'm a big guy, 285lbs. I just did 47 miles on Sunday with lots of elevation, and very exciting downhill speed. My bike was solid and the stock seat was just fine for me. I'm still a little sore but that's to be a little expected. The 7.2 is a solid ride.

The 7.2 looks like the perfect all round hybrid bike. $500 would be my starting point in a new hybrid.

My experience with the 7.5FX on frequent rides up to 25 miles is that two upgrades really improve comfort: ergo-type grips and bar ends. These changes 'transform' the bike more than you can imagine, and for a very small investment.

In another thread I have thrown in the idea of adding drop bar ( bar ends ) by Origin 8. The reviews seem really good and I like the aerodynamic position this would allow and it seems to be my best option as I just can't go out and by a drop bar bike just yet.

I just ordered a 7.2 FX and I really like the way that these bar ends look.....also like the idea of another hand position option during long rides. I am new to the forum so I am unable to send a PM to creonte to get the info. Has anyone been able to find the manufacturer and model number for the bar ends in the photo? This question was asked earlier in this thread but it was never answered.

Sorry - I don't know the pariculars of the pictured bar ends. I did make a similar upgrade to my 7.2 FX disc - though my bar ends (actually a full set of new grips with integrated ends) are little stubbies compared to these. For me, they serve the purpose of providing an alternate hand position and do so well. Together with a set of clipless pedals, they have really increased my enjoyment of the bike on longer rides.

I bought a pair a while back, and haven't decided what to do with them yet... I may put them on my FX...

EDIT: My FX currently has the Ergon grips without the bar end, and they are worth the cost. Definitely a comfortable grip.

The wife and I each bought a 7.3 FX and LOVE them. Test rode several comparable models from other manufacturers but just couldn't find one we liked better. She was fitted at the LBS and ended up with the men's model.....fit her better than the women's. Hers is black and mine is the Inferno Red. You can definitely see me coming.

Hi, I got an email about getting quoted. Little Darwin is correct, they are Ergon GP5 grips. They are awesome for long rides. I've subsequently sold that bike, and have a road bike now, but what a wonderful way to get into riding. May you enjoy every minute of it!

I forgot to add, I cut off about an inch or so off of each side of my handlebar. Made it shoulder width. Made me a little more aero, and I felt less fatigue that way. The Ergons looked better imho when I did that.

I swapped out the saddle on my 7.3 FX with a Bontrager H1. The H1 is OEM with newer FX's. I really like the saddle, however I seem to slide forward and have to adjust my position. Otherwise a nice saddle which I found on eekbay. I wear cycling tights or shorts when I ride and that may make the difference in comfort.
